Chapter 3 - Friday Morning at Nexus GlobalThe morning of the presentation arrived with blinding winter sunlight reflecting off the steel and glass monolith of Nexus Global Ventures. I sat in the back of Harrison’s tinted Maybach parked across the street from the main entrance, watching the stream of wealthy executives, board members, and investors march up the granite steps.

Gavin walked out of a sleek black town car right at 8:45 AM. He looked immaculate in a custom Brioni suit, his silver-rimmed glasses catching the morning light, wearing the self-satisfied grin of a man who believed he had conquered the world. Behind him stepped Julianna Caldwell—sleek, beautiful, and clad in an ice-blue Chanel coat, her face carved from stone as she strode effortlessly into the building.
They had no idea that federal investigators were already moving through the ground-floor administrative offices, or that the SEC compliance team had frozen every single corporate account linked to Nexus Global at 8:00 AM sharp.
“Showtime,” Harrison said, adjusting his cuffs and opening the car door. He offered me his hand. I slipped my fingers into his, took a deep breath, and stepped out onto the sidewalk alongside him.
We didn't enter through the employee checkpoints. Harrison held a master equity key card that granted us direct elevator access to the executive penthouse boardroom—the inner sanctum where Gavin was currently preparing to deliver his sweeping acquisition speech.
As the elevator glided upward in absolute silence, my heart hammered against my ribs, not from fear, but from the electric thrill of impending victory. Every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every quiet humiliation I had endured while Gavin plotted my destruction had led precisely to this moment.
The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.
We walked down the soundproofed corridor toward the heavy mahogany double doors of the boardroom. Muffled voices echoed from inside—Gavin’s confident, booming voice presenting quarterly growth projections, followed by murmurs of approval from the venture capitalists seated around the table.
Harrison rested his hand gently on the small of my back, guiding me forward. Two corporate security guards stepped out to block our path, their expressions stern.
“Excuse me, sir, ma'am, this is a closed executive session—you can’t—”
Harrison didn't break stride. He flashed a black titanium card bearing the Caldwell Capital insignia. “Step aside, or I’ll have your security credentials revoked before you can blink.”
The guards blanched, instantly recognizing the most powerful investor in the city, and stepped back without another word.
Harrison pushed open the heavy mahogany doors.
Inside, the room went dead silent. Twenty pairs of eyes snapped toward the entrance. Gavin stood at the head of the polished glass conference table, a laser pointer frozen in his hand, while Julianna sat to his right, her laptop open.
“Harrison?” Gavin blinked, his arrogant smile faltering as he stared at us in absolute shock. “What are you... how did you get in here? This is a private corporate session.”

I stepped past Harrison into the bright boardroom, my heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floor. I held my head high, my tailored emerald blazer gleaming under the recessed lighting.
“It’s not private anymore, Gavin,” I said, my voice echoing clearly off the glass walls. “In fact, I think everyone here would love to hear the real numbers behind your grand acquisition plan.”
