Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the House of CardsGavin’s face drained of every drop of color, turning an unnatural, sickly gray. For a split second, he looked like a cornered animal, his eyes darting frantically between Harrison and me. Next to him, Julianna slammed her laptop shut, her aristocratic composure finally cracking as she glared at me with venomous hatred.

“Security!” Gavin shouted, his voice cracking slightly as he pointed a trembling finger at us. “Get these intruders out of my boardroom right now! This woman is experiencing a severe psychological episode—she doesn't know what she’s saying!”

“I know exactly what I’m saying, Gavin,” I replied, walking steadily toward the head of the table. I pulled a crisp, stapled document from my portfolio and tossed it directly onto his presentation notes. “And so will the federal marshals who are currently downstairs seizing your servers.”

Before Gavin could lunge forward to grab the papers, the boardroom doors swung open once more. Two men in dark suits bearing federal insignia stepped into the room, flanked by two corporate compliance officers from the SEC.

“Gavin Sterling?” the lead investigator asked, flashing a gold badge. “You are being placed under arrest for corporate wire fraud, money laundering, identity forgery, and interstate securities manipulation. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

A collective gasp erupted around the mahogany table. The board members scrambled backward in their leather chairs, shouting over one another in sheer panic as the reality of the situation sunk in.

“This is a mistake! This is a setup!” Gavin screamed, thrashing as federal agents moved behind him and clamped heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. He glared at me with pure, unadulterated hatred, spittle flying from his lips. “You bitch! You planned this! You ruined everything!”

“I didn't ruin your life, Gavin,” I said, looking down at him with cold, absolute detachment. “You built a house out of stolen sand, and you expected me to sit quietly inside while you set it on fire. I simply opened the windows.”

Julianna rose abruptly from her chair, her face twisted in fury as she looked at Harrison. “Harrison, you absolute fool! You think destroying my career helps you? Our assets are intertwined—you’ll lose millions in the fallout!”

Harrison didn't even flinch. He walked slowly around the table, standing tall beside me, his dark eyes fixed coldly on his wife.

“Julianna,” Harrison said calmly, his voice smooth as glass, “my legal team has already filed expedited divorce papers citing gross corporate malfeasance and abandonment. Your personal accounts have been frozen, your shares have been revoked, and by sunset, you won't even own the clothes on your back.”

Julianna stumbled backward, her knees buckling as the terrifying magnitude of her defeat crashed down upon her. She had thought she was the smartest predator in Manhattan, only to discover she had been playing chess against a grandmaster.

As federal agents led Gavin and Julianna out of the boardroom in handcuffs, the heavy silence of the room returned. The remaining board members sat in stunned horror, looking up at Harrison and me as if we were gods who had just descended from Mount Olympus to smite the wicked.

“Meeting adjourned,” Harrison announced quietly to the terrified executives.

And with that, we turned around and walked out of the room together, leaving the wreckage of their empires behind us in the dust.
