Chapter 3 - The Economic ExecutionBy 8:00 AM the following morning, the financial world woke up to a seismic shift that sent shockwaves through the city's real estate market.

I spent the night in the presidential suite of the Grand Belvedere, wrapped in a plush robe, cradling my bump while my father’s personal physician checked my vital signs. The stress of the evening had triggered minor contractions, but by morning, the baby was stable and quiet.
My father had flown in on his private jet overnight. He sat across from me in the suite’s glass-walled living room, sipping dark coffee while reviewing three thick leather-bound dossiers.
"You endured three years of that nonsense, Vivienne," Arthur said softly, setting his cup down. "Why didn't you call me sooner?"
"Because I loved him, Dad," I replied quietly, looking out over the misty city skyline. "Or at least, I loved the idea of who I thought he was. I wanted to build a normal life without relying on the Sterling name. I wanted to prove I could make my own way."
"Building your own way does not mean allowing wolves to tear you apart," Arthur said, his voice hardening slightly. "You are a Sterling. You carry the blood of people who built industries from nothing. Humility is a virtue, my child, but submission to cruel people is a sin."
He slid the top folder across the table toward me.
"Vance Holdings," Arthur said. "They owe forty-two million dollars in short-term commercial loans maturing at the end of this month. Their primary lender was Apex National Bank."
I looked at the documents. "Was?"
"I bought Apex National Bank’s commercial lending division at 6:00 AM today," Arthur stated plainly. "As of thirty minutes ago, Sovereign Sterling Group is the sole creditor for Vance Holdings. And I have just authorized our legal council to issue a formal demand for immediate full repayment based on a material breach of ethics covenants."
Downstairs in the lobby of the Vance Holdings corporate headquarters, chaos was unfolding.
Daniel sat in his glass office on the twelfth floor, his head resting in his trembling hands. His phone was ringing incessantly. On the television screen mounted on his office wall, the financial news anchor was delivering a live report:
"Shares of Vance Holdings have plummeted by forty-seven percent in early morning trading following rumors of an immediate debt default. Major institutional investors are pulling out after reports surfaced that Sovereign Sterling Group has severed all ties with the firm..."
The door to Daniel’s office slammed open. His uncle Richard burst in, his necktie loose, his hair disheveled, and his face bright red.
"Where is she?!" Richard screamed, slamming both hands onto Daniel’s desk. "Where is your wife?!"
"I don't know!" Daniel sobbed, looking up with bloodshot eyes. "She’s not answering her phone! She blocked my number! I went to our apartment, but her father’s security team was already there packing her things!"
"You idiot!" Richard grabbed Daniel by his lapels, pulling him out of his chair. "Do you realize what your mother and sister have done?! The bank just froze all our operating accounts! We can't pay payroll this Friday! The contractors on the Harbor View development project are pulling their equipment off the site right now!"
"Uncle Richard, please, there has to be something we can do—"
"There is only one thing we can do!" Richard snarled, throwing Daniel back into his chair. "You are going to find her. You are going to drag your mother and Chloe on their knees to wherever Vivienne is staying, and you are going to beg for mercy! Because if Sovereign Sterling forecloses on our assets by 5:00 PM today, every single one of us is ruined! We will lose the houses, the cars, the firm—everything!"
At that exact moment, the door to Eleanor’s luxury penthouse suite in the city's most exclusive high-rise was kicked open by local law enforcement officers.
Eleanor, still wearing her silk robe, rushed into the foyer in horror. "What is the meaning of this?! Do you know who I am?!"
"Eleanor Vance?" the lead detective asked, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for third-degree assault, felony destruction of private property, and criminal harassment regarding the incident involving Ms. Vivienne Sterling at the Grand Belvedere Hotel last night."
"Assault?!" Eleanor gasped, taking a step back. "I just touched her dress! It was a cheap piece of fabric!"
"That 'cheap piece of fabric' was a custom maternity dress designed by French atelier Maison Laurent, valued at eighteen thousand dollars," the detective said coldly, snapping the handcuffs onto her wrists. "And the woman you assaulted is currently under the high-risk care of top medical specialists due to trauma-induced stress."
"Chloe! Chloe, call our lawyers!" Eleanor screamed as she was led down the carpeted hallway in cuffs, her expensive silk slippers dragging along the floor.
But Chloe couldn't help her.

Two miles away, inside the bridal suite of her newly rented suburban home, Chloe was already sitting in the back of a police cruiser, weeping hysterically. She was being charged with filing a false police report and evidence tampering—charges that carried potential prison time and guaranteed public disgrace.
The golden facade of the Vance family hadn't just cracked. It was being systematically dismantled piece by piece.
