Chapter 5 - The Final SeveranceDaniel slowly walked toward the table, stopping a few feet away. He looked down at the divorce papers sitting open in front of me, his eyes catching my signature at the bottom.

"You signed them," he said, the words barely audible.
"I did," I replied.
"Vivienne... we have a baby coming," he pleaded, reaching out a trembling hand across the table, though he didn't dare touch me. "We were supposed to build a family together. A home. Remember the small apartment we rented when we first got married? We were happy there! We didn't need millions of dollars or big titles! We had each other!"
"We were happy because I believed you were a man of integrity, Daniel," I said softly, looking directly into his eyes. "I thought you were working hard to build a life for us. But the truth is, you didn't want a simple, happy life with me. You wanted your family's money. You wanted your mother's approval. You were so terrified of losing your place in the Vance family hierarchy that you sacrificed your own wife's dignity to stay on their good side."
"I was stupid!" Daniel cried, slamming his fist against his chest. "I was a coward! I admit it! My mother controlled me my whole life! But last night... when I saw those doors close, when I saw who your father was... I realized what I lost!"
"No, Daniel," I corrected him, my voice firm and unwavering. "You didn't realize what you lost. You realized who you couldn't manipulate anymore. If my father had been a simple mechanic, you would be at home right now, telling me to get over it and apologize to your mother for ruining Chloe's wedding."
Daniel flinched as if I had slapped him across the face. He opened his mouth to deny it, but no words came out. Because he knew—and I knew—that it was the absolute truth.
"You didn't come here today to apologize to Vivienne, the woman you loved," I continued, standing up slowly from my chair, holding my pregnant belly. "You came here to save the Sterling money you realized you missed out on. You came to save your family's status."
"That's not true!" Daniel wept, falling to his knees beside my chair, grabbing the edge of the table. "I love you! I love our baby!"
"If you loved our baby, you would have protected her mother when she was being assaulted in front of two hundred people," I said. "You handed them my purse, Daniel. You helped them try to destroy me."
I reached into my pocket and pulled out my plain gold wedding band—the simple ring we had bought together three years ago when we swore our vows. I placed it gently on top of the signed divorce documents.
"Vance Holdings will not be liquidated today," I declared calmly.
Daniel looked up, a faint ray of desperate hope flashing in his eyes. "What?"
"My father and I have agreed to restructure the debt," I explained. "Sovereign Sterling will take a seventy percent controlling equity stake in Vance Holdings. Uncle Richard will remain as an operational manager under strict oversight. The company will survive, and the three hundred employees will keep their jobs."
Daniel gasped with relief. "Thank you... oh God, Vivienne, thank you—"
"However," I interrupted, my voice dropping an octave, cold and absolute, "you, Eleanor, and Chloe will be completely stripped of all equity, voting rights, and corporate positions. You will receive no severance, no trust fund payouts, and no financial support from Vance Holdings ever again."
Daniel's face drained of color once more. "Vivienne... I won't have anything left..."
"You will have what I had for three years, Daniel," I said, looking down at him without a trace of anger or hatred—only complete indifference. "You will have to work for your own living, build your own reputation, and live with the choices you made."
I turned toward the door.
"Vivienne! Please!" he screamed, reaching for my ankle as I walked past.

"If you approach me, my residence, or my child without a court-ordered mediator present," I said without looking back, "my legal team will file a permanent restraining order. Goodbye, Daniel."
I pushed open the door and walked out into the corridor where my father was waiting. As the heavy doors closed behind me, I could hear Daniel’s muffled sobs echoing inside the empty room.
