Chapter 1 - The Shadows of the FortressThe mahogany door of the master suite shut with a quiet, heavy click. Inside, the room was steeped in silence, broken only by the ragged, uneven breathing of the woman curled beneath the silk sheets.

Alejandro stood in the dim corridor, his tall, imposing silhouette illuminated only by the moonlight filtering through the arched stained-glass windows of the estate. He looked down at his right hand. It was trembling—not with fear, but with a murderous, terrifying rage that threatened to consume every drop of sanity left in his chest.

He slipped his phone from his pocket. The screen glowed in the dark, showing the brief message from Mateo, his most loyal captain and head of security: Orders are ready.

Alejandro typed back a single sentence: Secure the subterranean floor. Bring Dr. Reyes through the service tunnel. Silent lockdown.

Five minutes later, Alejandro descended the narrow spiral stone staircase leading deep beneath the mansion’s ground floor. This was the fortress beneath the palace—a soundproofed, high-tech war room equipped with secure communications, tactical monitors, and reinforced steel doors.

Mateo was waiting for him, flanked by four men dressed in black tactical gear. Every one of them was a veteran of Alejandro’s private guard, bound to him by blood, honor, and years of brutal combat overseas.

"Boss," Mateo said in a low, gravitas-filled voice, bowing his head slightly. "We held our position as instructed. The moment your plane touched down, we kept our eyes on Doña Victoria and Ricardo."

"Where are they now?" Alejandro’s voice was devoid of warmth, sounding like grinding granite.

"In the west wing library, opening another bottle of thirty-year-old scotch," Mateo replied, his jaw tightening. "They think you are exhausted from the flight. They think you suspect nothing."

Alejandro walked toward the center table, where a physical file lay open alongside several digital tablets. "Report. Everything that happened while I was in Europe."

Mateo took a heavy breath. "It started two months after you left. Doña Victoria dismissed your personal bodyguards under the guise of 'cutting luxury expenses.' She replaced them with mercenaries paid directly through Ricardo’s personal account. Then, they isolated Mrs. Alejandro."

Alejandro’s eyes darkened. "Go on."

"They confiscated her phone, her passport, and her credit cards," Mateo continued, pulling up video logs on the central monitor. "They barred her from leaving the estate. Whenever she tried to reach out to your private line, Ricardo intercepted the calls. They hired a crooked notary named Hector Vance to draft fraudulent power-of-attorney documents. When Mrs. Alejandro refused to sign them..." Mateo hesitated, glancing up at his commander. "...Ricardo brought in two enforcers. They beat her, Boss. They starved her in the cellar for four days until she couldn't hold a pen straight."

A terrible, suffocating pressure filled the subterranean room. The four tactical guards instinctively straightened their spines, sensing the lethal energy radiating from their leader. Alejandro did not roar. He did not punch the wall. He simply stared at the video freeze-frame of his brother holding Elena’s wrist while a lawyer pointed to a signature line.

"My mother," Alejandro whispered, his eyes fixed on the screen. "Was she present?"

"Doña Victoria watched from the doorway," Mateo said quietly. "She told Mrs. Alejandro that you were never coming back—that you had been killed in Naples and that your body was dumped in the sea. She said if Elena didn't cooperate, she would be buried in an unmarked grave beside the estate vineyard."

Alejandro closed his eyes for three long seconds. In that brief darkness, the man who loved Elena buried his grief, allowing the cold, merciless king of the underworld to take complete control.

"Dr. Reyes has arrived," Mateo added as the heavy door behind them slid open.

A grey-haired man carrying a black medical bag stepped quickly into the room. Dr. Reyes had been the family physician for thirty years, but his loyalty belonged entirely to Alejandro.

"Alejandro," Dr. Reyes said softly, his voice heavy with sorrow. "I came as fast as I could."

"She is upstairs," Alejandro said, turning to the doctor. "Her ribs, her arms, her back. I want every injury documented, photographed, and treated with the highest level of care. Use the hidden service elevator to enter the suite. If my mother or brother sees you, tell them you are checking on my personal travel exhaustion."

"I understand," Reyes nodded. "I will treat her immediately."

"Mateo," Alejandro commanded, turning back to his captain. "Do not touch Victoria or Ricardo yet. Let them drink. Let them celebrate their stolen fortune for one more night. I want a complete sweep of every account, every legal document, and every accomplice involved in this coup by sunrise. I want the names of every guard who put their hands on my wife."

"And when you have the names, Boss?" Mateo asked.

Alejandro looked at his reflection in the dark monitors—a man who had survived bombs, betrayals, and war zones, only to find the true vipers nesting inside his own bloodline.

"When I have the names," Alejandro said softly, "we will begin the execution."
