Chapter 4 - The House of Cards CollapsesThe arrest happened in under sixty seconds.

As the steel handcuffs clicked tightly around Grant’s wrists, his expensive designer tuxedo jacket bunched up awkwardly. He thrashed against the officers, screaming obscenities, his carefully cultivated facade of charm and corporate success completely shattering into pathetic, desperate whining.

“You’re ruining my life!” Grant roared, spitting as officers guided him toward the exit doors. “You’re a crazy bitch, Natalie! You’ll never see a dime of my money!”

“Actually, Grant,” Marcus Vance, my lead attorney, stepped out from the side corridor carrying a briefcase, “she won't need your money. Because under Clause 14 of the prenuptial agreement you signed on Tuesday, any proven act of physical violence instantly invalidates your claim to her premarital estate, transfers sole ownership of your shared corporate holdings to her, and strips you of your spousal support rights.”

Diane charged forward like a wild animal, aiming her fingernails directly at my face.

“You scheming little witch!” Diane screamed before two police officers intercepted her, pinning her arms behind her back. “You trapped him! You planned this all along!”

“No, Diane,” I said, my voice steady and unyielding. “I survived him. There’s a difference.”

The guests backed away in horror, whispering and recording the spectacle on their smartphones. The fairy-tale wedding had transformed into a public execution of arrogance and abuse.

As Grant was hauled out through the grand double doors and pushed into the back of a waiting squad car, I stood alone in the center of the ruined dance floor, surrounded by frosting, broken glass, and silent witnesses.

Brooke walked up beside me, gently placing a warm wool coat over my blood-stained shoulders.

“It’s over, Nat,” she whispered.

I took a deep, shuddering breath of fresh air—the first real, untainted breath I had taken in eighteen months.

“No, Brooke,” I replied, looking toward the open doors where the police cruisers drove away into the night. “It’s just beginning.”
