Chapter 4 - The Breaking Point

The escalation happened on a Tuesday. I woke up to find the house filled with men I didn't recognize—hired muscle, not Michael’s usual staff. They were packing up files, scrubbing the computers, and clearing out the safe.
Michael was leaving. And he was taking Emma with him.
"You’re staying here," he told me, his voice devoid of emotion. "The house is secured. You have food, money, and guards. Don't leave."

"I'm repositioning," he corrected.
"Is Emma going with you?"
He paused, then sighed. "Emma is my business now. You are my past."
As the fleet of black SUVs pulled away, I felt a strange sense of clarity. He had left me behind because he thought I was broken. He thought I was still the foolish girl who joked about hitting back.

I went to the basement—the place I had once feared. I knew where he kept the duplicate keys, the emergency passports, and the list of contacts for his enemies. I wasn't going to hide. I was going to finish the war.

I started making calls. Not to the police—they were bought. I called the people Michael had betrayed. I called the families of the men he had destroyed. I called the ones who had been waiting for a crack in his armor.
I told them where he was going. And I told them what he was hiding in the church.
