Chapter 5 - The Collision

The mountain road was slick with rain when I finally caught up to them. I had stolen one of the guards’ motorcycles, my belly heavy with child, my mind set on a singular, cold objective.
I found them near the old church—the land Michael had 'gifted' to Emma. It was a ruin, a rotting shell of wood and stone surrounded by dark forest. Michael’s SUVs were parked in a circle, their headlights cutting through the fog.
I watched from the tree line as Michael dragged Emma toward the entrance of the church. He looked frantic, his composure finally shattering. He wasn't the king of the city anymore; he was a desperate man clinging to a lie.
"You knew!" Michael roared, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "You spoke to her! You ruined it!"
"I saw the truth, Michael!" Emma screamed, pulling away from him. "You’re a murderer!"
I stepped out of the shadows, the motorcycle engine dying behind me. I held a small, black device in my hand—the remote to the security system I had sabotaged hours before.
"It’s over, Michael," I said.
He turned, his eyes narrowing. "Sarah? How did you—"
"I learned from the best," I said, tapping the device.

Suddenly, the floodlights of the SUVs cut out. Then, from the darkness of the trees, figures emerged. Not police. Men with scars, men with grudges, men who had lost everything because of Michael Lawson—or whoever he really was.
Michael reached for his sidearm, but he was too slow.
