Chapter 6 - The Golden HorizonThe wedding of Lily Parker and Victor Blackwood was the most exclusive, heavily guarded, and whispered-about event in the history of Chicago’s high society—even though not a single society photographer was permitted within three miles of the estate.

It was held in the private glass conservatory of the Blackwood mansion, bathed in the golden light of an October afternoon. The room was overflowing with thousands of white lilies and blue hydrangeas.

There were no corrupt judges, no treacherous socialites, and no fearful syndicates. Only a tightly knit circle of loyal men, trusted staff, and Dr. Vance, who beamed proudly from the front row.

Little Ethan, now walking steadily on his own two feet, toddled down the aisle wearing a miniature black tuxedo with a blue silk bowtie, carrying a velvet pillow with the wedding rings.

And then, the heavy oak doors opened.

Lily walked down the aisle on the arm of Marcus, who had proudly insisted on giving her away as a surrogate father figure. She wore a breathtaking gown of Chantilly lace and silk chiffon, her veil trailing gently behind her on the polished marble floor.

At the altar stood Victor.

For the first time in his life, the fearsome syndicate boss looked nervous. His dark hair was neatly combed, his tuxedo impeccably tailored, and his obsidian eyes shone with a raw, overwhelming adoration as he watched the woman he loved walk toward him.

When Lily reached the altar, Marcus handed her hand over to Victor.

"Take care of her, Boss," Marcus whispered with a rare grin.

"Always," Victor replied.

The exchange of vows was simple, solemn, and intensely personal. There were no rehearsed speeches or hollow promises of perfection. They promised to protect each other, to stand shoulder to shoulder against the dark, and to cherish the little boy who had brought their souls together.

"By the power vested in me," the officiant—a trusted retired judge who owed everything to Victor—smiled, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Victor, you may kiss your bride."

Victor pulled back Lily’s veil with steady, reverent hands.

His lips met hers in a passionate, lingering kiss that made the gathered crowd applaud and cheer. From the front row, Ethan clapped his little hands together, laughing with uncontainable joy.

Later that evening, as the reception wound down and the string quartet played softly in the ballroom, Lily and Victor stood on the private balcony of their master suite, looking out over the sprawling, peaceful estate.

The Chicago skyline twinkled like a distant galaxy of diamonds on the horizon.

Victor wrapped his arms around Lily’s waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as she played with the heavy gold band on her ring finger.

"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Blackwood," Victor whispered, his voice a warm rumble against her neck.

Lily tilted her head back, resting against his chest, smiling into the cool night air.

"I was just thinking about that first day," Lily said softly. "When I was crawling on the marble floor, thinking everything was lost."

Victor’s arms tightened around her instinctively, pulling her closer, as if he could still protect her from the ghosts of the past.

"You never have to crawl again, Lily," Victor promised, his voice fierce and unwavering. "From now on, you walk beside me. In the light, and in the dark."

Lily turned in his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking into the eyes of the man who had terrified a city just to keep her safe.

"I know," she smiled, pressing her lips gently to his cheek. "And I wouldn't want it any other way."

Below them, the lights of the Blackwood mansion burned bright and steady against the night—a beacon of warmth, loyalty, and an unbreakable love that had risen from the ashes of betrayal to conquer the world.
