Chapter 6 - A New Dawn for the Vale Empire

The heavy double oak doors of the executive study were locked from the inside.

Adrian didn't bother using a key.

He raised his heavy tactical boot and kicked the lock mechanism directly through the frame with one devastating strike!

CRASH!

The doors burst inward, slamming against the interior walls.

Inside the study, Victoria Vale stood pinned against her high leather chair, holding a small pearl-handled .22 revolver in her shaking, diamond-encrusted hands.

The two corporate attorneys were huddled beneath the mahogany desk, trembling in absolute terror.

"Stay back!" Victoria shrieked, aiming the tiny revolver at Adrian’s chest. "Stay back, Adrian! I built this company! I earned this family's wealth! You will not take it from me!"

Adrian walked slowly into the room, lowering his shotgun. He didn't look afraid; he looked like an emperor coming to reclaim a stolen throne.

Anika stepped beside him, her carbine raised, her sight trained directly on Victoria's forehead.

"Put the gun down, Victoria," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying baritone. "It's over."

"It's not over!" Victoria screamed, tears of pure rage ruining her heavy makeup. "Your father was weak! He was going to leave half the biotech shares to a charitable trust for sick children! He was going to ruin us!"

"He was going to save millions of lives," Adrian corrected her coldly. "Including the life of a nineteen-year-old boy your mercenaries tried to murder six weeks ago."

Anika stepped forward, pulling the silver flash drive from her tactical vest and tossing it onto the mahogany desk in front of Victoria.

"That drive contains the complete digital ledger of your offshore accounts," Anika said, her gray eyes burning like hot coals. "It contains the wire transfer records to Sartori Chemical for the thallium poison, the hit contracts for Leo Rao, and the direct orders issued to the six assassins at the Grand Regent Hotel last night."

Victoria looked at the silver drive, her hand trembling so violently that the small pearl revolver slipped from her fingers, clattering uselessly onto the Persian rug.

She sank into her leather chair, dropping her head into her diamond-ringed hands, sobbing in pure, pathetic defeat.

SIRENS WAILED IN THE DISTANCE.

Through the tall study windows, red and blue police lights cut through the morning fog as twenty state police cruisers and FBI tactical vehicles pulled up the long driveway of the estate.

Marcus Vance stepped into the study, accompanied by four federal agents.

"Victoria Vale," the lead FBI agent announced loudly, pulling steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for attempted murder, corporate treason, conspiracy to commit murder, and illegal weapons trafficking. You have the right to remain silent."

CLICK-CLACK.

The steel cuffs locked around Victoria’s wrists. She was hauled out of her chair, her white Chanel suit rumpled, her face pale as she was dragged past Adrian and Anika in absolute disgrace.

As the federal officers led her out into the hallway, silence fell over the grand study.

The sun was just beginning to rise over the Potomac trees, casting long, golden beams of light through the high windows, illuminating the dust motes floating in the air.

Adrian turned around, looking at Anika.

She stood in her torn tactical vest, her dark hair dusted with drywall powder, her brave gray eyes looking back at him.

Adrian stepped close to her, reaching out his long, broad fingers to gently wipe a smudge of black soot off her cheek.

"It's over," Adrian whispered softly, his steel-blue eyes shining with profound warmth and admiration. "Your family is safe, Anika."

Anika let out a long, ragged breath she felt like she had been holding for seven weeks. She let her heavy carbine hang from its sling, resting her forehead gently against Adrian’s chest.

Adrian wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close against his strong body, holding her tight while the morning sun warmed the room.

ONE YEAR LATER.

The inner courtyard of Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore was bathed in brilliant summer sunshine.

A large, newly constructed glass wing was surrounded by hundreds of guests, doctors, and news reporters. Near the entrance hung a massive bronze plaque:

THE RAO & VALE TRAUMA AND REHABILITATION CENTER

"Dedicated to those who fight in the dark so others may live in the light."

Standing near the podium, wearing a sharp grey suit and walking comfortably without a cane, was twenty-year-old Leo Rao. He was smiling broadly, laughing with his mother, Priya, who was wearing a beautiful maroon silk saree.

Standing at the main microphone, wearing a stunning, tailored emerald-green silk dress, was Anika Rao.

She looked breathtaking—her dark hair flowing gracefully over her shoulders, her gray eyes radiant with authority, peace, and love.

"When I took a job as a night-shift waitress a year ago," Anika spoke into the microphone, her voice carrying across the crowd, "I believed that people with money and power only saw people like my family as invisible. But I learned that real strength isn't found in wealth or titles. It's found in the courage to protect the people you love when the world goes dark."

The crowd broke into thunderous, warm applause!

Anika stepped down from the podium, walking over to where Adrian Vale stood waiting for her.

Adrian looked magnificent—wearing a navy bespoke tuxedo, his tall frame radiating health, power, and deep, boundless happiness.

As she reached him, Adrian took her hand into his, raising her fingers to his lips to press a gentle, loving kiss against her knuckles.

"You made a wonderful speech, Chief Security Director," Adrian whispered with a playful, dangerous grin.

"I learned from the best, CEO," Anika replied, her eyes shining as she leaned into his side.

Adrian pulled a small velvet box from his pocket, opening it gently between them under the warm summer sun.

Inside rested a magnificent, flawless five-carat solitaire diamond ring, surrounded by a halo of tiny blue sapphires—matching the color of the ocean and the dawn they had conquered together.

"One year ago," Adrian said softly, his voice thick with deep, absolute devotion, "you saved my life in a ballroom filled with enemies. Today, I want to give you my heart, my family, and my future."

He looked into her gray eyes, his face filled with pure love.

"Anika Rao... will you marry me?"

Anika looked at the ring, then looked up into the steel-blue eyes of the man who had fought beside her through fire and blood to protect her family.

Tears of pure, radiant happiness filled her eyes as a breathtaking smile lit up her face.

"Yes, Adrian," Anika whispered softly, throwing her arms around his neck. "A thousand times, yes!"

Adrian pulled her close, lifting her off her feet as he kissed her deeply under the golden summer sky, surrounded by the cheering crowd, their families, and a future that would never know darkness again.
