Chapter 3 - The Deconstruction

The days that followed were a whirlwind of legal filings, police interrogations, and public humiliation. The media, which had once hailed the "Perfect Couple of Silicon Valley," was now feeding on the scraps of their spectacular collapse. Victoria Lane was not just being evicted; she was being dismantled.
In the master suite of the estate, Emily was working to restore the rooms to a state of calm. She had been reinstated, but the terms had changed. Richard had spent the last forty-eight hours in the library, communicating only with his lawyers and forensic accountants.
When he finally emerged, he looked like a man who had aged a decade. He found Emily in the nursery, where the triplets were finally playing, their laughter slowly returning as the trauma of the previous week began to fade.
"I need to tell you something," Richard said, leaning against the doorframe.
"If it’s an apology, you can save it," Emily replied, not looking up from the blocks she was stacking with Noah. "I’m not here for you, Richard. I’m here for them."
"I know," he said softly. "But this goes deeper than Victoria. I’ve been looking into the finances. She didn't act alone. She had help from within my own executive board. Someone was feeding her information about my assets, helping her plan the takeover of the trust funds. She was being groomed for this by someone who wanted to destabilize my company from the inside."
Emily stopped stacking the blocks. She turned to look at him. "Who?"
"My Chief of Operations, Marcus Thorne," Richard said, his eyes darkening. "He’s been working with Victoria since the day I met her. He’s the one who planted the Rolex in your bag. He’s the one who convinced me that you were stealing from the household accounts. He didn't just want me out of the way; he wanted to orchestrate a hostile takeover the moment I was distracted by a family scandal."
Emily felt a chill run down her spine. The depth of the betrayal was staggering. It wasn't just a scorned lover; it was a corporate coup d'état.
"Why are you telling me this?" she asked.
"Because I need your help," Richard said, his voice steady. "I’m going to tear them down, Emily. Every single one of them. But I can’t do it if I’m worried about the boys. I need you to lead the household, not as a housekeeper, but as the Director of Domestic Security and Primary Care. I want you to have full authority over the estate. No one—not even me—gets to make a decision regarding these children without your approval."

Emily looked at the triplets, who were now laughing at a story Ethan was telling. She realized then that she hadn't just been their caretaker; she was the only anchor they had.
"I’ll do it," she said, standing up. "But I have one condition. You stay out of our way, and you start actually being a father. Not a bank account, not a CEO. A father."
