Chapter 4 - The Corporate Sting

The trap was set for a Friday evening—the night of the annual Tech Innovation Gala. Marcus Thorne, unaware that his partner-in-crime was currently rotting in a county holding cell, was prepared to trigger the final phase of the takeover.

Richard and Emily had worked in silence, a strange alliance formed over late-night planning sessions. Emily had used her knowledge of the house staff to identify the moles Thorne had planted, while Richard had utilized his high-tech surveillance to build an airtight case of corporate espionage.

The gala was elegant, filled with the elite of the industry. Thorne moved through the crowd with the confidence of a man who believed he had won. He approached Richard, who was standing by the bar, looking calm and composed.

"The merger documents are ready for your signature, Richard," Thorne said, offering a shark-like smile. "The board is waiting in the private lounge. With the Victoria situation resolved, this is the perfect time to finalize the new corporate structure."

"You’re right, Marcus," Richard said, raising his glass. "It’s time to finalize everything."

He gestured toward the lounge. As Thorne led him inside, they were met not by the board, but by federal agents and a group of journalists Richard had personally invited.

"What is this?" Thorne’s smile flickered.

"This," Richard said, pulling a tablet from his pocket, "is the recording of your private calls with Victoria Lane, detailing your plan to embezzle twelve million dollars from the tech development fund, and the evidence of your falsified documents regarding the household theft charges."

Thorne’s face turned the color of ash. He turned to bolt for the door, but the federal agents were already there.

"It’s over, Marcus," Richard said, his voice cold. "I’m not a tech mogul tonight. I’m a man who protects his family."

As Thorne was led out in handcuffs in front of the entire industry, the silence in the room was absolute. Richard felt a hand on his arm. It was Emily. She had been watching from the shadows, her eyes reflecting the victory he had craved for years.

"You did it," she whispered.

"We did it," he corrected.
