CHAPTER 2 — The Secret Behind the Empire

Over the next hour, the meltdown slowly eased.

Not because Dale fixed Eli.

But because he stopped trying to change him.

Eventually, Eli crawled closer.

Then closer again.

Finally, he sat beside Dale on the floor.

The entire lobby seemed to exhale.

Vivian began crying all over again.

This time from relief.

Later that evening, she invited Dale into her office.

The famous CEO sat across from him without her usual confidence.

“You understood him immediately.”

Dale shook his head.

“No.”

She looked confused.

“I understood what it feels like when nobody understands.”

The room became quiet.

Then Vivian admitted something she had never told her board, her investors, or even many friends.

She was terrified.

Not of losing money.

Not of losing her company.

Of failing her son.

“I don't know how to help him,” she whispered.

Dale smiled sadly.

“You already are.”

“How?”

May you like

“You never stopped trying.”

For the first time, Vivian looked less like a billionaire and more like a mother carrying years of guilt.
