Chapter 6 - The Foundation RestoredThree weeks later, the morning sun poured through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the executive penthouse at Viscari Tower, casting a warm, golden glow across the polished oak floors and sweeping marble staircases.

Down in the lobby, the elevators chimed smoothly, their digital floor indicators operating with absolute, flawless precision.
At the private corner desk on the fiftieth floor—a space previously reserved for high-level board meetings—Lena Ortiz sat in a sleek ergonomic leather chair, reviewing the final architectural blueprints for the tower’s newly upgraded structural safety systems. The silver nameplate on her mahogany desk read: Chief Operations and Infrastructure Director, Viscari Group.
The heavy oak door swung open softly, and Matteo walked in, carrying two cups of fresh black coffee. He set one down gently beside her keyboard, leaning his hip against the edge of the desk.
“The municipal inspectors just signed off on the new elevator safety protocols,” Matteo noted, a faint smile touching his lips. “They called it the most secure vertical transport array in the state of Illinois.”
“They should,” Lena replied, looking up from her blueprints with a bright, confident smile. “My father taught me that if you want a building to stand the test of time, you don't build it on secrets or shortcuts. You build it on solid engineering.”
Matteo reached out, his warm fingers brushing gently against her hand as he took the blueprint from her desk and laid it aside.
“And what about the person running it?” Matteo asked softly, his dark eyes holding hers with an intensity that made the room feel suddenly still. “Do you think she’s finally found a place where she belongs?”
Lena looked out across the sprawling skyline of Chicago, watching the city wake up beneath the brilliant autumn light. The shadows of the past night were gone, washed away by truth, courage, and a foundation built to last.

She turned back to Matteo, her smile radiant and completely unshielded.
“I think,” Lena whispered, sliding her hand into his, “the foundation is finally solid.”
