Chapter 4 - The Siege of Moretti ManorThe clock in the grand foyer struck 1:30 AM.

The rain outside had turned into a full-scale tempest, lightning flashing across the sky and casting long, jagged shadows through the mansion's stained-glass windows.
Down in the wine cellar, locked behind a reinforced steel door, Victoria Hale sat on the cold concrete floor, shivering in her ruined silk robe. Her manicured nails were chipped from clawing at the door, her hair wild and matted.
"Alessandro!" she screamed for the hundredth time, her voice raw and hoarse. "Let me out! When my father finds out about this, he’ll have the National Guard here!"
Suddenly, the lights in the cellar flickered and died, plunging her into pitch-black darkness.
A second later, a deep, deafening BOOM echoed from the front gates half a mile away, shaking the concrete foundations of the estate.
The siege had begun.
Up on the third floor, Alessandro stood in his private armory, pulling a black tactical vest over his crisp dark shirt. He checked the magazine of a customized SIG Sauer pistol, racked the slide with practiced ease, and holstered it at his hip.
Emma stood in the doorway, holding Lily tightly in her arms. The child was awake now, her wide eyes reflecting the flashing red emergency lights along the corridor.
"Alessandro..." Emma whispered, her voice laced with terror. "Is it them?"
Alessandro walked over to them. He didn't look rushed. He didn't look afraid. He looked like a storm incarnate—a man who had spent his entire life preparing for this exact moment.
He reached out and gently patted Lily's head. "Lily, do you remember what I told you about this castle?"
"It has secret doors?" Lily whimpered softly.
"That's right," Alessandro smiled warmly. "And right now, you and your mommy are going to go through a very special secret door behind my closet. It leads to an underground bunker built beneath six feet of reinforced concrete. No one can hurt you there."
He looked up into Emma's eyes. "Marco is waiting inside the vault. He has full access to the security cameras and weapons controls. Stay inside until I come get you."
"Promise me you'll come back," Emma begged, reaching out and gripping his hand. Her fingers were trembling, but her hold was fierce. "Please, Alessandro. Don't leave us alone."
Alessandro looked down at her small hand wrapped around his. He brought her fingers to his lips, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against her knuckles.
"I have spent seven years waiting for a reason to live, Emma," he murmured against her skin. "I am not going to die tonight."
He ushered them into his walk-in closet, pressed a hidden button disguised as a coat rack, and watched as a heavy steel wall slid open, revealing a lit staircase leading down into the earth. Emma looked back at him one last time, her eyes filled with love and fear, before descending into the vault with her child.
The steel door hissed shut, sealing them in safety.
Alessandro turned around, his eyes turning to liquid ice. He pulled two combat knives from the wall display, secured them to his vest, and clicked his earpiece into place.
"Marco," Alessandro spoke into his comms as he walked calmly toward the grand staircase. "Report."
"Three armored SUVs breached the front gate using C4 charges, boss," Marco's voice echoed in his ear from the bunker below. "They have approximately forty men advancing through the front lawn. They think they have the element of surprise."
"Disable the garden perimeter lights," Alessandro commanded, pulling his weapon. "Let them enter the dark."
"Done, Don Alessandro," Marco replied. "And boss... Dominic Valenti himself is in the second vehicle. He came to watch you die."
Alessandro reached the top of the grand marble staircase, looking down into the dark, cavernous foyer below. Heavy glass shattered as Valenti's tactical team kicked through the front double doors, their weapon-mounted flashlights cutting through the darkness like frantic searchlights.
"Search the house!" a harsh, raspy voice shouted from the doorway. Dominic Valenti stepped inside, holding a nickel-plated revolver, flanked by four heavily armed mercenaries. "Find Moretti! Bring me his head and bring me the girl! We leave no witnesses!"

From the darkness above, Alessandro smiled.
"Welcome to my home, Dominic," Alessandro's voice echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer, impossible to pinpoint. "I hope you enjoyed the ride. Because you are never leaving."
