Chapter 3 - The Nine O'Clock ExecutionAt 8:45 AM the following morning, the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Vale Tower looked like a triage center in a war zone.

Half-eaten pastries sat stale on silver trays. Coffee cups were scattered across the mahogany conference table. The room smelled of sweat, panic, and expensive aftershave that had long since lost its freshness.

Sterling Vale sat at the head of the table, his tie undone, his eyes bloodshot, his white shirt wrinkled. Beside him, his father, Arthur Vale—a frail, seventy-year-old man with white hair and a oxygen tube resting under his nose—was coughing violently into a handkerchief.

"How could this happen?!" Sterling roared, slamming his fist onto the table so hard a crystal water glass spilled over. "How does a Zurich holding company enforce a loan default overnight?! Where are our lawyers?!"

Harrison, the chief legal counsel who had been present at the rooftop party the night before, stood near the glass wall looking like a ghost.

"Sterling, shut up," Harrison whispered, his hand trembling as he held his phone. "You don't understand. Vanguard Crest sold the debt notes at 4:00 AM."

"To who?!" Sterling demanded, standing up. "We can buy them back! We have liquidity in our offshore accounts—"

"We don't," Arthur Vale rasped, his weak voice trembling with terror. "The offshore accounts were frozen two hours ago by the Federal Tax Authority. Someone submitted thirty years of unredacted offshore ledger books to the Department of Justice at dawn."

Sterling’s breath caught in his throat. "What? Who had those ledgers?!"

Before anyone could answer, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Four men dressed in dark gray suits with tactical earpieces stepped inside, taking positions along the perimeter of the room. They didn't say a word, but the cold, disciplined authority radiating from them instantly silenced every board member in the room.

Then, Amara walked in.

She was spectacular.

She wore a crisp, tailored ivory wool suit with wide trousers and a gold silk blouse that matched the shade of the dress she had worn the night before. Her braids were pulled back into a flawless, high crown held together by gold pins. There was not a single drop of water, not a single trace of shame or vulnerability on her skin. She looked like a goddess who had descended from a mountain to inspect her domain.

Behind her walked Gabriel Park.

He wore his signature dark suit, his hands resting casually in his pockets, his gaze sweeping over the terrified board members with detached indifference.

Sterling stared at Amara, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "You... what are you doing here?! This is a private executive board meeting! Security!"

"Security has been relieved of duty, Mr. Vale," Amara said smoothly. Her voice echoed off the soundproofed walls, clear, calm, and utterly commanding.

She walked straight to the head of the table, stopping right beside Sterling’s chair.

Gabriel pulled out the chair directly across from Sterling and sat down, leaning back, resting his arm over the leather backrest.

"As of 7:30 this morning," Gabriel spoke, his low voice instantly commanding the attention of every person in the room, "Sovereign Capital owns eighty-two percent of Vale Global Hospitality Inc. debt, sixty-four percent of its voting shares, and the underlying land deeds to every hotel bearing your family name."

Arthur Vale let out a terrible, gasping sob, his head falling into his hands. "Park... please... my family built this company over three generations..."

"And your son destroyed it in three seconds," Gabriel replied, without a shred of pity in his eyes.

Sterling shook his head frantically, pointing a trembling finger at Amara. "This... this is about her?! That girl from the party?! You bankrupted a multi-billion-dollar corporation over a woman who fell into a pool?!"

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed into dark, razor-sharp slits.

He didn't raise his voice. He didn't slam his hand on the table. He simply leaned forward, resting his forearms on the mahogany wood.

"That 'girl' is Amara Bello Park," Gabriel said softly. "She is the Vice Chair of Sovereign Capital. She is the principal architect of the Horizon Restoration Project. And she is my wife."

The room dropped into a suffocating, absolute silence.

Harrison, the lawyer, slumped against the glass wall, closing his eyes in sheer horror. He had known Gabriel Park’s reputation for years. He knew that Gabriel had systematically eliminated two major crime syndicates in Europe without leaving a single fingerprint. And Sterling had pushed his wife into a pool for fun.

Sterling backed away from the table, his knees knocking together, his face turning the color of chalk. "Your... your wife...?"

Amara pulled a thick leather folder from her leather briefcase and slid it across the table, stopping it right in front of Sterling.

"This is your formal severance package, Sterling," Amara said, her voice dripping with cool grace. "You are stripped of your title as Chief Operating Officer. Your corporate credit cards have been canceled. Your company penthouse on 5th Avenue has been repossessed. And your personal luxury vehicle leases have been terminated."

Sterling looked down at the paper, his hands shaking violently. "You... you can't leave me with nothing!"

"Oh, you aren't leaving with nothing, Sterling," Amara smiled softly, leaning down so her face was inches from his. "You're leaving with a summons from the District Attorney’s office for corporate embezzlement, tax fraud, and third-degree assault."

She tapped the folder with one manicured finger.

"Sign the surrender of your equity shares now," Amara whispered, "or my husband will turn the federal evidence over to the state prosecutor before noon."
