Chapter 6 - The Golden HorizonSix months later.

The summer evening air over the city was soft, warm, and fragrant with the scent of night-blooming jasmine brought in from the botanical gardens below.

On the rooftop of the city's grandest hotel—formerly the Vale Grand, now officially renamed The Bello Horizon—a celebration was in full swing.

The rooftop had been completely transformed under Amara’s visionary architectural direction. The cold, stark marble had been replaced by warm, hand-carved teakwood decks, lush vertical gardens blooming with rare tropical flora, and bronze sculpture fountains that bubbled softly under gentle gold lighting.

The illuminated infinity pool still stretched across the edge of the building, overlooking the glittering skyline, but its water now reflected the soft, romantic glow of a hundred floating lotus lanterns.

City leaders, international architects, foreign dignitaries, and high-society patrons walked along the teak decks, laughing, enjoying champagne, and celebrating the grand re-opening of the city's finest landmark.

At the edge of the infinity pool stood Amara.

She wore a breathtaking gown of midnight-blue silk, its neckline adorned with tiny hand-sewn gold stars that caught the evening light. Her braids were styled in a majestic, cascading waterfall down her back, interwoven with delicate gold threads that sparkled with every movement.

Beside her, holding a crystal glass of sparkling water, was Gabriel.

He wore his black suit, his hand resting gently against the small of her back—a constant, warm presence that shielded her from the world while giving her space to shine as bright as the sun.

"The mayor just signed the preservation grant for the historic district," Amara said softly, leaning back against Gabriel’s chest as they looked out over the sparkling city below. "Our firm is taking over the entire waterfront renovation."

"I know," Gabriel murmured into her hair, his thumb tracing a small circle against her waist. "I bought the waterfront real estate three weeks ago so no one could bid against you."

Amara turned her head, looking up at him with an amused, loving smile. "You bought four miles of commercial docks just so my architectural firm wouldn't have to deal with municipal bidding wars?"

"I am a businessman, my love," Gabriel replied with a rare, quiet smirk. "I invest in guaranteed success."

A waiter walked past, offering a silver tray with fresh champagne glasses. Amara took two, handing one to her husband.

She looked across the pool deck toward the glass elevator.

Harrison, the former Vale lawyer who had cooperated fully with federal prosecutors, had taken a job as a compliance officer for Sovereign Capital. Sterling Vale’s father had been allowed to retire comfortably to a private medical facility in Switzerland, his medical bills paid in full by a charitable trust created by Amara.

As for Sterling Vale?

His trial had concluded two weeks prior. Convicted on seven federal counts, he was currently serving a fifteen-year sentence in a maximum-security federal facility, his name completely erased from the skyline he had once bragged about owning.

Amara raised her glass toward the glowing water of the infinity pool—the very spot where, six months ago, an arrogant man had thought he could humiliate her and destroy her dignity.

"A toast," Amara whispered softly.

Gabriel clinked his glass gently against hers, his dark eyes filled with absolute, everlasting devotion. "To what, my queen?"

Amara looked into his eyes, feeling the warmth of his hand, the strength of his promise, and the unshakeable empire they had built together.

"To the water," Amara smiled softly, her voice carrying over the warm summer breeze. "And to the sky that belongs to us."

Gabriel pulled her close, pressing his lips gently against hers as the golden lotus lanterns floated silently across the crystal-blue water beneath the stars.
