Chapter 4 - The Cornered RatBy three o'clock that afternoon, the news had sent shockwaves through the financial world.

VALE GLOBAL ENTERPRISES ENTERS EMERGENCY RECEIVERSHIP; SOVEREIGN CAPITAL TAKES FULL CONTROL.

Every news network, financial blog, and social media platform was broadcasting footage from the rooftop party the night before—specifically, a leaked high-definition video showing Sterling Vale shoving Amara into the pool, followed by the terrifying entrance of Gabriel Park.

The public reaction was brutal and immediate. Vale Hotel stock had plummeted to zero before trading was suspended. The family name was radioactive.

In a dingy, hidden basement lounge beneath an abandoned boxing gym in the Industrial District, Sterling Vale sat at a stained wooden table, clutching a glass of cheap bourbon.

He had been kicked out of his hotel penthouse three hours ago by Gabriel’s security team. His personal credit cards had been declined at every hotel in the city. He had been forced to turn to the only people he knew who operated outside the law—a mercenary security firm named Kestrel Tactical, led by a scarred former mercenary named Vance.

"I need them taken care of, Vance!" Sterling screamed, his voice cracked with desperate, manic fury. He slammed a velvet bag filled with his mother’s stolen diamond necklaces onto the table. "I have fifty pieces of high-grade raw diamonds here! Worth at least two million on the black market! I want that bitch dead, and I want Gabriel Park on his knees!"

Vance, a burly man with a tattoo of a viper wrapped around his throat, looked down at the velvet bag. He opened it, tipped out three sparkling diamond rings into his palm, and examined them with a jeweler's loupe.

"Gabriel Park isn't a businessman you hit with a drive-by, Vale," Vance said coldly, setting the loupe down. "He's the man who buried the Russian mob in the East Docks three years ago. If my men go near his wife, Park will slaughter every person in this room."

"He took EVERYTHING from me!" Sterling shrieked, tears of rage spilling down his face. "My name! My money! My hotels! I have nothing left to lose! If I’m going down, I’m taking his precious wife with me!"

Vance stayed quiet for a long moment, weighing the diamonds in his hand. A slow, greedy smile touched his scarred face.

"Park’s wife is overseeing the inventory sweep at the Vale Grand Hotel rooftop tonight," Vance mused. "She’s personally inspecting the property before the re-branding announcement tomorrow morning. She’ll have security, but not a full army."

"Kidnap her," Sterling pleaded, leaning across the table, his eyes wide with unhinged malice. "Bring her to the old harbor warehouse. We’ll force Gabriel to sign back the company shares, and then... then I'll drown her in the ocean myself."

Vance zipped the velvet bag shut and slid it into his coat pocket.

"Get your coat, Vale," Vance said, standing up and pulling a heavy suppressed pistol from under the table. "We leave in twenty minutes."

What Sterling Vale did not know—what his pathetic, unhinged mind could never comprehend—was that every single dark-market security firm in the city answered to one ultimate authority.

Three minutes after Vance zipped his coat shut, a text message was sent from Vance’s encrypted satellite phone straight to the private device sitting on Gabriel Park’s mahogany desk.

SUBJECT HAS TAKEN THE BAIT. STAGING AT THE HARBOR WAREHOUSE.

Gabriel read the message, his face expressionless. He set his phone down and looked across his office at Amara, who was sitting on the sofa, quietly sipping tea while reviewing architectural blueprints for the new hotel layout.

"Sterling just hired Vance," Gabriel said softly.

Amara didn't look up from her blueprints. She took a slow sip of her tea and set the delicate china cup onto its saucer with a quiet clink.

"Did he use his mother's diamonds?" she asked.

"Yes," Gabriel replied. "The ones he stole from her vault this morning."

Amara smiled—a cool, brilliant expression that held all the sharp intelligence of a master strategist.

"Let’s go to the harbor, Gabriel," she said softly. "It’s time to end this farce once and for all."
