PART 5: The Shadow of the Real Villain

Three weeks after the disastrous wedding night, the investigator called Grace back. The news was chilling.
"Grace, your son was fed manipulated data," the investigator explained over the phone. "The IP addresses of those threatening emails didn't come from Katherine's laptop. They originated from a private server owned by Katherine’s father, Charles Dupont—and a co-conspirator."
"Who?" Grace asked, her heart hammering against her ribs.
"A man named Marcus Vance. Katherine's estranged uncle, who has been tracking her whereabouts for the last year. Charles Dupont is in prison, but Marcus is free, and he wants the hidden offshore accounts that Katherine supposedly has access to. He manipulated Caleb. He dropped that diary and those files where Caleb would find them, using your son’s grief as a weapon to break Katherine."
Grace felt a wave of cold dread. Caleb wasn't just a vengeful husband; he was a pawn in a much larger, dangerous game.
Before Grace could even process the information, a loud crash echoed from the front of the house.
She dropped her phone and ran to the living room. The heavy oak front door had been kicked open. Standing in the doorway were two large, armed men, and behind them was a wealthy-looking, older man with a cruel smile.

It was Marcus Vance.
"Where is my lovely niece?" Marcus sneered, stepping into the house. "I believe she has some family inheritance she needs to return to me."
