Chapter 6 - The Final Balance

The sun dipped below the Olympic Mountains, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet and gold as the city lights began to flicker on across the Seattle skyline.

I closed the final ledger on my desk, clicking the mechanical pen shut with a crisp, satisfying sound.

The numbers balanced. Every account was reconciled. Every asset was secure.

For the first time in my life, I didn't have to look over my shoulder, worry about medical collection calls, or apologize for taking up space in a world that demanded invisibility. I hadn't asked to be dragged into Dante Moretti’s dark, dangerous empire. But in surviving it, I hadn't just found my missing sister’s betrayal—I had found my own strength.

The office door clicked open one last time.

Dante stood in the doorway, his coat over his arm, waiting.

"Ready to go home, Isidora?" he asked.

"Lead the way, Dante," I said. "Let's see if the books balance out there, too."
