Chapter 5 - The Final Move

The end came not with a bang, but with a betrayal from within.
Valeria had reached out to one of Dante’s trusted security guards, offering him a fortune to bring Lili to her. She planned to use the child as leverage to force Dante to sign over the control of the Moretti companies.
The night of the gala, everything was in place. The mansion was filled with guests, a distraction meant to cover their tracks.
Dante was at the podium, addressing the press about his transition to a new, transparent leadership model, when Marcus leaned in and whispered in his ear: "They have the girl."
Dante’s blood went cold. He didn't hesitate. He dropped the microphone, shoved through the crowd, and sprinted toward the staff entrance.
He found the guard in the corridor, dazed, holding his head. "They took her, Boss. They took the girl."
Dante didn't ask where. He knew. He had a tracker on Lili’s toy bunny, a precaution he’d installed the day he brought them home. He pulled up the signal on his phone.
They were at the old shipping warehouse by the docks—the one that had belonged to his father. The place where the poisonings had begun.
Dante drove like a demon. He arrived to find Valeria standing in the center of the warehouse, holding Lili by the arm. Lili was crying, clutching her bunny.
"Dante!" Valeria screamed, her voice cracking. "Drop the phone! Drop the evidence you have against my father! Or the girl dies."
Dante stepped into the light, his hands raised, but his posture wasn't that of a defeated man. It was that of a predator.
"You have no leverage, Valeria," Dante said, his voice calm. "My men have already surrounded the perimeter. Your father is in custody, and the police have the evidence of the shipping logs. You are alone."
"I have the child!"
"And if you hurt her, you will never leave this warehouse," Dante said.
He took a step forward.
"Mommy!" Lili cried out.
Clara emerged from the shadows behind Dante. She had insisted on coming, and Dante hadn't been able to stop her.
"Let her go, Valeria," Clara said, her voice steady and clear. "It’s over."
Valeria looked around, realizing the exits were blocked. She pulled a gun, her hand shaking. "It’s not over! I will take everything from you!"
Dante moved with the speed of a striking cobra. He didn't fire; he lunged, tackling Valeria before she could pull the trigger. The gun skittered across the floor.

Marcus rushed forward, grabbing Lili and pulling her into safety.
Valeria was pinned to the concrete floor, screaming in rage. Dante stood over her, his eyes cold. "It’s over, Valeria. You lost the moment you decided to hurt a child."
