Chapter 6 - The Promise of Tomorrow

The aftermath was a whirlwind of police reports, lawsuits, and the slow process of rebuilding. The Graves family empire collapsed under the weight of their own crimes, and Dante was finally free to restructure his company as he saw fit.

But for Dante, the real work was just beginning.

Six months later, the estate felt different. It was warmer. The garden, once a place of solitude, was now filled with the sound of Lili playing tag with the estate dogs.

Clara stood on the terrace, watching the sunset. She had officially moved into the main house, not as a secretary, but as a partner. She had gone back to school, finishing her nursing degree, and was setting up a foundation to help families in need—the kind of work she had always dreamed of.

Dante walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her back against his chest.

"What are you thinking about?" he whispered.

"How far we've come," she said, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "From the office to... this."

"It’s not a destination," Dante said, kissing her temple. "It’s a beginning."

He turned her around, pulling a ring from his pocket. It wasn't a massive, flashy diamond that belonged in a tabloid, but a beautiful, understated ring with a single, clear stone.

"I know we’ve had a complicated road," he said, his voice soft. "But I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you and Lili never have to worry again. I want to be your family. For real."

Clara looked at him, her eyes filled with tears. She didn't see the mafia boss or the ruthless billionaire anymore. She saw the man who had risked everything to save her, the man who had learned to love a child he didn't have to, and the man who had finally let go of the ghosts of his past.

"Yes," she whispered. "Yes, I will."

As he slipped the ring onto her finger, Lili came running across the grass, shouting for her mother. They both laughed, turning to greet her.

The city lights glimmered in the distance—the same city that had once felt so dangerous and cold. But here, in the warmth of the estate, surrounded by the people he loved, Dante Moretti realized he had finally found his true home. The past was buried, the enemies were gone, and for the first time in his life, the future looked bright, clear, and entirely theirs.
