Chapter 5 - Unveiling the TruthDawn broke over Boston Harbor, painting the sky in pale shades of amber and gray.

Inside the Falcone estate’s private study, the damaged security monitors had been fully replaced, and the air filtration systems hummed quietly in the background. The threat had been neutralized, the conspirators were locked away, and the criminal underworld of the East Coast was reeling from the sudden, violent collapse of the internal coup.

Martha sat at the mahogany desk, staring down at a silver lighter resting on the polished wood.

The door opened softly, and Damian walked in. He had changed into a clean black suit, his expression composed, though the lingering tension of the past twenty-four hours still lingered in his eyes. He set a steaming cup of tea beside her hand.

"How are you holding up?" Damian asked quietly, pulling up a chair beside her.

"For three months, I thought my brother died a coward or a fool," Martha said, her voice thick with emotion as she traced her thumb over the engraved initials A.B. on the lighter. "I thought he got in over his head with bad men and paid the price. I never knew he was trying to protect people... trying to stop what Victor and Julian were building."

"Andrew Bellini was a brave man," Damian said firmly. "He came to me because he knew the danger. He knew the risk he was taking. And because of him, you exposed a rot that would have eventually destroyed everything from the inside."

Martha looked up, her gaze meeting his slate-gray eyes. "You knew who I was almost immediately, didn't you? When I walked into your bathroom without knocking."

"I knew your resume was forged by the second day," Damian admitted with a faint, rare smile. "No real housemaid holds a silver tray with the military balance stance you used, and no ordinary employee looks at a security perimeter with an investigator's eye. But I wanted to see what you were looking for."

"And if I had been an assassin sent by the New York syndicate?"

May you like

"Then you wouldn't have pushed me out of the way of a sniper's bullet," Damian replied softly. "You saved my life, Martha. Just like your brother tried to."

Martha looked down at the silver lighter, the heavy grief in her chest finally giving way to a sense of closure and hard-earned peace.
