Chapter 3 - The Boardroom SiegeThree weeks had passed since the night in the delivery room.

The grand skyscraper of Brooks International stood tall against the downtown skyline, its glass facade gleaming in the morning sun. Inside the executive penthouse on the fifty-fifth floor, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.

The annual emergency board meeting had been called by Evelyn and Adrian Brooks in a desperate attempt to push through a corporate charter amendment. Their goal was simple: vote to strip the trust's automated mandate before the legal paperwork of my son’s birth was fully recognized by the state courts.

Adrian sat at the head of the massive mahogany table, wearing a dark gray suit. He looked terrible—dark circles hollowed out his eyes, and his hands twitched nervously against his leather notepad. Evelyn sat beside him, fanning herself with a silk handkerchief, her eyes darting toward the heavy double doors every few seconds.

"Members of the board," Adrian began, standing up and clearing his throat to address the fifteen wealthy shareholders seated around the room. "We are here today to resolve a minor administrative discrepancy regarding my late grandfather’s estate. A fraudulent claim has been made by my estranged ex-wife, attempting to use an archaic trust clause to interrupt our upcoming merger with Sterling Global."

"Fraudulent claim, Adrian?" spoke up Richard Vance, the lead trustee of the Vance Legal Group and Dr. Vance's brother. "The court-appointed geneticists have already verified the child's paternity and DNA markers. The trust mandate is active."

"That child is three weeks old!" Evelyn interjected loudly, slamming her hand on the table. "He cannot run a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate! Clara is an uneducated, low-class woman who spent the last three months working as a janitor! She is entirely unfit to exercise voting rights for this company!"

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the end of the boardroom clicked open.

The room fell into an instant, dead silence.

Walking through the doors was not the broken, tired woman they expected.

I wore a sharply tailored, midnight-black pantsuit designed by Alexander McQueen, my dark hair styled in sleek, elegant waves. In my arms, secured in an ergonomic, velvet-lined infant carrier, was my son, Ethan. Flanking me on either side were four of the country’s most terrifying forensic attorneys and two federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The heel of my pumps clicked rhythmically against the marble floor as I walked straight down the center of the boardroom.

"Good morning, members of the board," I said, my voice smooth, confident, and echoing with absolute authority.

Adrian stumbled backward into his chair, his eyes wide with shock. "Clara... you can't be in here! This is a closed executive session!"

"Actually, Adrian," I replied, stopping at the opposite head of the table and placing my leather portfolio down with a firm thud, "as the legal guardian holding eighty-two percent of the voting shares of Brooks International, I called this meeting."

Evelyn stood up, her face red with fury. "Security! Remove this woman immediately!"

The two security officers standing by the door didn't move an inch. Instead, they bowed their heads respectfully toward me.

"The security team answers to the majority shareholder now, Mrs. Brooks," I said calmly.

I opened my portfolio and gestured to my lead attorney, who handed a thick stack of blue-bound documents to every board member at the table.

"What is this?" asked one of the senior board members, scanning the first page with growing shock.

"That," I announced, leaning forward with both hands on the table, "is the official preliminary report of the forensic audit I conducted over the past three weeks. It outlines forty-two separate instances of embezzlement, wire fraud, and illegal offshore transfers executed by Adrian Brooks and Evelyn Brooks over the last three fiscal years."

The boardroom erupted into frantic murmurs and gasps.

"She's lying!" Adrian yelled, standing up so fast his chair tumbled backward. "It's a fabrication! She forged those documents!"

"The SEC agents standing behind me would disagree, Adrian," I replied, pointing to the two federal officers. "They’ve been reviewing the thumb drive I handed them three weeks ago. The paper trail is ironclad. You stole over sixty million dollars from the corporate pension fund to cover your personal gambling debts and to pay off the corrupt medical clinic that issued your fake infertility report."

Evelyn collapsed back into her chair, her breath coming in ragged, terrified gasps.

"Board members," I continued, turning my attention to the stunned shareholders. "Under Section Twelve of the Brooks International Bylaws, any executive officer indicted for corporate felony is subject to immediate removal without severance."

I looked straight into Adrian’s hollow, defeated eyes.

"As majority shareholder, I vote to terminate Adrian Brooks from his position as CEO, effective immediately."

Richard Vance stood up. "All in favor?"

Every single hand at the table went up—except for Adrian's and Evelyn's.

"The motion carries," Richard declared firmly.

I smiled, stepping up to the head chair that Adrian had just vacated. I picked up his custom pen, dropped it into the trash bin beside the desk, and sat down.

"Now then," I said, looking around the room of powerful executives who were now hanging on my every word. "Let's discuss the future of this company."
