Part 3: The Man Behind the Payments

Alexander Whitmore didn't sleep.

The leather notebook lay open on his desk, its final words repeating in his mind:

Phase Two begins this Friday.

This wasn't the work of a cruel housekeeper acting alone.

Someone had been paying Martha.

Someone had been using his daughter as part of a larger plan.

Before sunrise, Alexander called his head of security, Eric Lawson.

"I need your entire team at the mansion. Immediately."

Within hours, the estate became a command center. Security experts reviewed camera footage while financial investigators traced the bank transfers found in Martha's notebook.

By noon, Eric entered the study carrying a folder.

"We traced the payments."

Alexander looked up.

"Who sent them?"

"They were routed through several offshore companies, but they all lead back to one business."

Eric placed a document on the desk.

Holloway Consulting.

Alexander recognized the name instantly.

Richard Holloway.

Three years earlier, Alexander had acquired Holloway's technology company in a hostile takeover. Holloway had lost everything and publicly blamed Alexander for destroying his life.

As he left the courtroom that day, Holloway had looked Alexander in the eyes and said,

"One day you'll know what it's feels like to lose everything."

Alexander had assumed he meant money.

Now he realized Holloway had meant something far more personal.

Upstairs, Sophia slowly woke up.

She looked around nervously before seeing her father sitting beside the bed.

"You stayed?"

Alexander smiled.

"I promised I would."

She hesitated.

"Is Martha coming back?"

"No."

"Ever?"

"Never."

Sophia's eyes filled with tears.

"I had a dream she came back."

Alexander gently hugged her.

"No one will ever hurt you again."

For the first time in months, Sophia allowed herself to believe him.

Later that afternoon, Detective Harris arrived with new evidence.

"We questioned Martha."

"And?"

"She refused to answer most questions."

He placed a photograph on the table.

It showed Martha meeting Richard Holloway at a downtown café two weeks earlier.

Alexander stared at the picture.

The connection was now undeniable.

Holloway had been working with Martha.

But why?

Eric rushed into the room carrying another laptop.

"We recovered deleted files from Martha's computer."

A spreadsheet appeared on the screen.

It listed Sophia's school schedule, doctor's appointments, favorite playground, and daily routine.

"They tracked every movement," Eric said.

Then he played an audio recording.

Martha's voice filled the room.

"The girl already believes her father doesn't love her."

Another voice followed.

A man's calm, familiar tone.

"Good. Once she stops trusting him, Phase Two can begin."

Alexander recognized the voice immediately.

Richard Holloway.

His fists clenched.

This had never been about revenge against a business rival.

It was about destroying a father through the person he loved most.

That evening, Alexander received a phone call from an unknown number.

"Good evening, Alexander."

He instantly recognized the voice.

"Richard."

A quiet laugh came through the speaker.

"Did she cry while waiting for you to come home?"

Alexander remained silent.

Richard continued,

"You spent years building an empire. I spent months taking away the only thing that truly mattered."

"You'll pay for this."

"I already have."

The call ended.

Seconds later, another message arrived.

Check your garage.

Alexander hurried outside with Eric.

Under the windshield wiper of his SUV lay a white envelope.

Inside was a recent photograph of Sophia sleeping peacefully in her bedroom.

The timestamp showed it had been taken three nights ago.

On the back, someone had written five chilling words:

Your cameras don't see everything.

Alexander slowly lowered the photograph.

If someone had entered the mansion without being seen...

May you like

Then the danger wasn't over.

It had only just begun.
