Part 5: A New Beginning

Six months passed.
Spring arrived, and the Whitmore mansion no longer felt cold and empty. The silence that once carried fear was now filled with laughter, music, and the sound of Sophia running through the halls.
Every morning, Alexander drove her to school himself.
Every evening, they ate dinner together.
He no longer scheduled meetings during family time.
Nothing was more important than his daughter.
Still, the scars Martha had left did not disappear overnight.
Sometimes Sophia still apologized when she accidentally dropped a spoon.
Sometimes she woke up from nightmares, afraid someone would tell her she wasn't good enough.
Whenever that happened, Alexander would sit beside her bed until she fell asleep again.
"You never have to earn my love," he told her every single time.
"And you never have to be perfect."
Slowly, she began to believe him.
One afternoon, Alexander received a call from Detective Harris.
"We have an update on Richard Holloway."
Alexander listened quietly.
"Holloway accepted a plea agreement. He'll spend many years in prison."
"What about Martha?"
"She was convicted of child abuse and conspiracy. She won't be working with children again."
Alexander thanked the detective and hung up.
Justice had finally been served.
A few days later, Sophia came home from school holding a drawing.
"Daddy, look!"
Alexander smiled.
The picture showed a little girl holding hands with a tall man beneath a bright yellow sun.
Above them was a simple sentence written in careful handwriting:
"My dad always comes home."
Alexander felt his eyes fill with tears.
He knelt beside her.
"Is this us?"
Sophia nodded with a big smile.
"Because you kept your promise."
Alexander hugged her tightly.
"I always will."
For the first time since losing her mother, Sophia truly felt safe.
And for the first time in years, Alexander realized that the greatest success of his life had nothing to do with business.

It was hearing his daughter laugh again.
The End.
