Part 4: The Trap Closes

Alexander stared at the photograph for a long moment, his hands tightening until the edges bent.

Someone had stood inside his daughter's bedroom while she slept.

Someone had taken a picture without triggering a single security alarm.

The realization chilled him more than anything Martha had done.

He turned to Eric.

"Lock this estate down."

Within minutes, every gate was sealed. Additional guards surrounded the property, and every security camera was checked again. No one entered or left without Alexander's approval.

Yet one question remained.

How had someone gotten inside?

The next morning, Eric rushed into the study carrying a tablet.

"We found something."

He replayed footage from three nights earlier.

At first, nothing seemed unusual.

Then, just after 2:00 a.m., the cameras briefly froze.

Exactly eight seconds.

When the video resumed, everything looked normal.

"It wasn't a malfunction," Eric explained. "Someone remotely disabled the cameras."

Alexander's expression darkened.

"They had help."

Eric nodded.

"And they knew this security system better than we do."

Meanwhile, Detective Harris returned with new information.

"We searched Martha's apartment."

"Did you find anything?"

"A storage locker key."

Inside the locker were several boxes filled with files, children's photographs, burner phones, and thousands of dollars in cash.

But one document caught everyone's attention.

It was a contract.

At the bottom was Richard Holloway's signature.

Beside it were the words:

'Final payment upon completion of Phase Two.'

Now they finally had enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant.

Richard Holloway was officially wanted for conspiracy, child abuse, and criminal intimidation.

That afternoon, Sophia was playing in the garden under the watch of two security guards.

She slowly began smiling again, chasing butterflies across the lawn.

Alexander watched from the terrace.

It was the happiest he had seen her since her mother's death.

His phone suddenly rang.

It was Eric.

"Sir... Holloway's house is empty."

"What?"

"He disappeared before the police arrived."

Alexander frowned.

"He knew we were coming."

"There is one more thing."

"What is it?"

"We found a private airfield reservation made under a fake name."

Alexander immediately stood.

"Get the helicopter ready."

An hour later, Alexander and Detective Harris arrived at the abandoned private hangar.

The place looked deserted.

One small jet sat near the runway with its engines warming up.

"Holloway!" Harris shouted.

The man slowly stepped out of the aircraft.

He smiled calmly.

"I wondered how long it would take."

Police officers surrounded the runway.

Richard looked completely unfazed.

"You've lost," Alexander said.

Richard laughed.

"No."

He reached into his coat.

Several officers drew their weapons.

Instead of a gun, Richard pulled out a small flash drive.

"This contains every payment, every recording, and every instruction Martha ever received."

He tossed it onto the ground.

"I don't need it anymore."

"You used an innocent child."

"I used your weakness."

Alexander stepped forward.

"You wanted revenge against me."

"I wanted you to feel helpless."

Before anyone could react, Richard suddenly tried to run toward the aircraft.

Police officers tackled him to the ground.

Within seconds, he was handcuffed.

As officers led him away, he looked back at Alexander.

"I took months of her childhood."

Alexander answered quietly,

"And you'll spend years remembering the day you lost everything."

Richard said nothing more.

Three months later...

The mansion felt different.

Laughter had replaced silence.

Sophia no longer flinched whenever someone entered a room.

She no longer apologized for accidents.

She no longer believed she had to earn love.

Alexander had canceled countless business trips.

Every morning he walked Sophia to school.

Every evening they ate dinner together.

Sometimes they baked cookies, making as much mess as they wanted.

One afternoon, Sophia looked up at him and smiled.

"Daddy?"

"Yes?"

"You came home."

Alexander knelt beside her.

"I'm never too busy for you again."

She wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I know."

For the first time in a long time...

She truly believed it.

The mansion was finally what it had always been meant to be.

Not a symbol of wealth.

But a home.
