Chapter 6 - A Promise Written in Gold

One year later.
The sun was setting over the hills of Tuscany, casting a breathtaking golden light across the rolling vineyards of the Moretti private estate in Italy.
The air was warm, sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine, ripe grapes, and fresh earth.
Unlike the cold, secret civil ceremony in the hospital room, today was a celebration of love, life, and rebirth.
A grand white marquee was set up in the center of the vineyard. String quartets played soft Italian melodies as over two hundred guests—family allies, business partners, and close friends—sat in elegant rows decorated with white roses and olive branches.
At the front of the altar stood Vincent.
He looked strikingly handsome in a navy blue velvet tuxedo. Beside him stood Marco, his best man, looking proud and sharp.
The music shifted to a slow, majestic bridal march.
The crowd stood up.
At the end of the long wooden aisle, walking hand in hand with young Matteo, who served as the ring bearer in a matching mini tuxedo, was Lily.
She was breathtaking.
Lily wore a magnificent, hand-laced Italian lace wedding gown with a sweeping veil that caught the warm Tuscan breeze. The high collar of delicate lace gracefully accented her neckline, while the fitted silhouette flowed into a dramatic train. She carried a bouquet of white peonies and olive leaves.
Her skin glowed with health and happiness. She was no longer the frail, terrified maid who had taken bullets on a marble floor. She was a radiant, confident, beloved woman.
As she walked down the aisle, her eyes locked onto Vincent's.
Vincent felt a lump form in his throat. The Iron Wolf, a man who had faced down armed cartel lords without flinching, felt tears threaten his eyes at the sight of his bride.
Matteo walked her to the altar, proudly handing Lily’s hand over to his father. "Take care of her, Daddy," the boy whispered loudly, causing the guests to laugh softly.
"With my life, son," Vincent promised.
Vincent took Lily’s hand. Her fingers were warm, steady, and filled with trust.
The elderly Italian priest stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly over the vineyard as he conducted the ceremony in both Italian and English.
When the time came for vows, Vincent turned to face Lily, holding both her hands in his.
"Lily," Vincent began, his deep voice carrying over the silent crowd. "When you first entered my home, I was a dead man walking. I believed my heart was buried in the past, and that my only duty was to protect my son and my empire. Then, in thirty seconds of absolute terror, you showed me what true courage looked like. You took bullets meant for my blood. You bled for my family before you even knew us."
He squeezed her hands tightly.
"I gave you my name to make you untouchable," Vincent continued, his eyes shining with profound emotion. "I never expected that you would be the only woman who could heal my broken heart. You are my savior, my queen, and my home. I vow to protect you, cherish you, and love you through every storm, until my very last breath."
Tears streamed down Lily’s face, sparkling like diamonds in the sunset light.
She cleared her throat, looking up at the man she loved.
"Vincent," Lily spoke, her voice clear and filled with devotion. "I spent my whole life surviving. I thought love was a fairy tale reserved for people who didn't have to worry about rent, safety, or survival. But when I looked at you and Matteo, I found a purpose greater than my own fear."
She smiled, a beautiful, tearful smile.
"You gave me a shield when I was defenseless," she said softly. "You gave me a family when I was alone. You proved to me that the terrifying Iron Wolf has the gentlest, most loyal heart in the world. I promise to stand beside you, not as a contract bride, but as your equal, your partner, and your wife, forever."
"By the authority vested in me," the priest pronounced, raising his hands, "I now declare you husband and wife. What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You may kiss the bride."
Vincent didn't wait a second longer.
He stepped forward, wrapped his arm around Lily’s waist, and lifted her slightly off her feet, dipping her as he pulled her into a passionate, breathtaking kiss.
The crowd erupted into roaring applause and cheers. Marco clapped loudly, Don Dominic raised his glass in respect, and Matteo jumped up and down, cheering wildly.
When Vincent lifted her back up, Lily was laughing, her hands resting on his chest, her face flushed with pure joy.
"I love you, Mrs. Moretti," Vincent whispered against her lips.
"I love you, Mr. Moretti," Lily replied softly.
Later that night, long after the feast had ended, the dancing had finished, and Matteo was sound asleep in the villa, Vincent and Lily walked out onto the stone balcony of their private suite overlooking the moonlit Tuscan hills.
The night was quiet, warm, and peaceful.
Vincent stood behind Lily, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. Lily leaned back against his broad chest, placing her hands over his.
On her ring finger, the plain platinum band and the glittering diamond caught the silvery light of the full moon.
"What are you thinking about?" Vincent asked softly into her hair.
Lily looked out over the endless dark hills, listening to the gentle chirping of crickets and the soft rustle of the olive trees in the wind.
"I was thinking about the maid's uniform," Lily confessed with a soft, gentle laugh. "Eighteen dollars an hour. A broken teacup. And three bullets."
Vincent tightened his grip around her, burying his face in her neck, feeling the steady, strong beat of her pulse.
"That maid saved an empire, Lily," Vincent murmured softly. "And she conquered the Wolf."
Lily turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking into the deep green eyes that now held only love, warmth, and devotion for her.

"No, Vincent," Lily whispered, leaning up to kiss him gently on the lips. "She just came home."
Under the quiet canopy of the Tuscan stars, surrounded by peace, power, and an unshakeable love, the poor maid and the mafia boss embraced—their souls bound together forever, untouchable, healed, and whole.
