Chapter 6 - The Light ReturnsTwo years later.

The Moretti estate was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late summer afternoon. The security fences were still there, and the guards still patrolled the perimeter, but the atmosphere inside the compound had completely changed. The heavy drapes were pulled back. The silence had been permanently banished.

Gabriel stood on the stone terrace, wearing a casual linen shirt and slacks, holding a glass of iced tea. He leaned against the stone balustrade, watching the chaos unfold on the sprawling green lawn below.

The triplets were now four years old, and they were an absolute force of nature.

Leo was sprinting across the grass, holding a brightly colored kite string. Lucas was chasing him, trying to catch the tail of the kite, while Liam was spinning in circles until he fell dizzy onto the soft grass, laughing hysterically.

"They have entirely too much energy," a soft, breathless voice said from behind him.

Gabriel turned, his face breaking into a radiant, unguarded smile.

Emma walked onto the terrace, looking breathtaking in a flowing white maternity dress. Her belly was heavily rounded, carrying their daughter, who was due in less than a month. She wore a simple, elegant diamond band on her left ring finger—the only piece of jewelry she ever cared about.

Gabriel set his glass down, walking over to his wife. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his hands gently over her swollen stomach, pulling her back against his chest. He kissed the side of her neck.

"They get their energy from their mother," Gabriel murmured.

"I am currently a beached whale, Mr. Moretti," Emma laughed, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "I have no energy."

"You have enough fire to run this entire family," Gabriel corrected softly.

And she did. In the two years since they had married, Emma had completely transformed the Moretti family. Gabriel had stepped back from the violent front lines of the syndicate, restructuring his empire into legitimate shipping and real estate ventures. He still commanded respect and fear in the underworld, but he no longer brought the darkness home. Emma refused to allow it.

"Look at them," Emma whispered, watching the triplets tackle each other in a pile of limbs and giggles. "They're so happy."

Gabriel looked down at the lawn. In the corner of the yard, tied securely to the strong branch of an old oak tree, was the thick, braided nautical rope from Isabella's sailboat. Gabriel had repurposed it into a tire swing. It was a daily reminder of a promise kept.

Do not let Gabriel's dark world steal their light.

"They are happy because they feel safe," Gabriel said, quoting the wisdom his late wife had once shared, and which Emma had forced him to remember. "And they feel safe because of you."

Emma turned in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck. "No, Gabriel. They feel safe because their father is here. Because you finally let yourself love them."

Gabriel looked into the warm, beautiful brown eyes of the woman who had saved his life by breaking every rule he had ever set. He leaned down, capturing her lips in a deep, slow, passionate kiss that still made Emma's toes curl.

"Daddy! Emma! Look!"

Gabriel and Emma pulled apart, looking down at the yard.

Leo was pointing triumphantly at the sky. The kite had finally caught a strong updraft and was soaring high above the mansion, a bright splash of red and gold against the clear blue sky.

Gabriel smiled, pulling his wife close to his side. His empire was vast, his wealth was immeasurable, and his past was painted in blood. But as he stood in the sunlight, feeling his unborn daughter kick against his palm and listening to his sons laugh, Gabriel Moretti knew he was finally a rich man.

He had his family. He had his light. And he would never, ever let it go.
