Chapter 6 - A New Dawn Over MilanThree months later, the Mediterranean sun beamed down brightly over a stunning, whitewashed villa overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Amalfi Coast.

The nightmares of Villa Moretti, the poverty, the grease-stained uniforms, and the cold loneliness of the past two years felt like a lifetime away.

I stood on the sun-drenched terrace, sipping fresh lemonade as I watched Emma chase a small yellow butterfly across the lush green lawn, her faded blue rabbit clutched tightly under her arm—though Alessandro had quietly insisted on having a master jeweler reinforce its stitching with gold thread, a private joke between us all.

Footsteps approached softly from behind, and strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist, pulling me back against a warm chest.

“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Bennett,” Lucas murmured, kissing the side of my neck.

I leaned back into his embrace, smiling as I looked out at the endless horizon. “I was just thinking about how crazy life is. Six months ago, I was scrubbing Persian rugs and getting slapped by mob wives. Now, I’m sitting on the Amalfi Coast with a husband who supposedly rose from the dead.”

Lucas chuckled softly, resting his chin on my shoulder. “Well, to be fair, my resurrection came with quite a few perks. Including a very generous retirement package courtesy of Alessandro’s cleared accounts.”

Speaking of Alessandro, a sleek black Mercedes pulled up the winding gravel driveway of our new estate. The door opened, and the terrifying mafia boss stepped out—though today, he looked more like a relaxed uncle, carrying a giant teddy bear and a box of imported Italian pastries for Emma.

As he walked up the stone steps toward the terrace, he caught my eye and tipped an imaginary hat with a warm, genuine smile.

The debt between our worlds had been written in blood and fear, but it had ended in redemption. We had all survived the fire, crawled out of the ashes, and found our way back to the light.

“Come on,” Lucas whispered, taking my hand. “Let’s go welcome our favorite uncle.”

As we walked across the sunlit grass toward Emma and Alessandro, I finally felt the last heavy shadow lift from my soul. We weren't hiding anymore. We were home.
