Chapter 4 - The Clean Sweep

By five o'clock that evening, news of the sudden, earth-shattering purge at Harrison Global had spread like wildfire across the global financial news networks.

CNBC, Bloomberg, and The Wall Street Journal were all running breaking news banners:

BREAKING: HARRISON GLOBAL CEO STEPS DOWN; SON LOGAN CARTER TAKES CONTROL IN MASSIVE FRAUD PURGE. VICE CHAIRMAN AND FOURTEENTH-FLOOR EXECUTIVES ARRESTED BY SDNY.

Inside the building, the atmosphere on the fourteenth floor had completely transformed.

The electronic lockdown had been lifted. The emergency amber lights were replaced by warm, bright illumination. But the three middle-management glass offices that had once belonged to Vanessa, Derek, and Paula were now completely empty—their hard drives seized, their files boxed, their names scrubbed from the corporate directory.

The thirty remaining employees on the floor stood in small groups near the coffee station, whispering in utter disbelief.

"Did you see them?" one analyst whispered. "Derek was crying when the federal marshals walked him past the lobby!"

"Vanessa had to be carried out!" another added. "She kept screaming that she knew the CEO!"

"I still can't believe it," Mei Santos murmured, holding a cup of tea, her eyes wide. "Logan... Logan Hayes was the heir to the entire company. He sat right next to me for three weeks. I offered him half my sandwich on his first day!"

"He didn't just sit here," Omar Bell said softly, clutching his black notebooks to his chest. "He was documenting everything. He watched how they treated us."

Suddenly, the private executive elevator chimed.

The floor went instantly silent.

Logan Carter stepped out of the lift.

He was still wearing his tailored suit, but he had removed his tie, unbuttoning his top collar, rolling up his sleeves slightly—reverting to the accessible, grounded man they had known, yet radiating an undeniable power.

Behind him walked Greg from HR—the quiet coordinator who had processed Logan's temporary assignment—and two corporate facilities managers carrying boxes of new high-end equipment.

Logan walked straight to the center of the open floor. Every eye was glued to him.

"Good evening, everyone," Logan said, his deep voice filling the quiet room with a warm, reassuring energy.

No one spoke. Several analysts looked down, suddenly feeling intimidated by the man who owned the building.

Logan smiled gently. "Three hours ago, this floor was freed from a toxic environment that never should have existed in this company. I want to personally apologize to every single one of you."

Mei blinked. "Apologize, Mr. Carter?"

"Yes," Logan said, looking around at their tired, shocked faces. "My father built Harrison Global on the values of integrity, hard work, and mutual respect. Over the last few years, executive greed allowed people like Vanessa Brooks and Richard Vance to turn this floor into a place of fear, exploitation, and theft. That was a failure of corporate leadership. And as CEO, I take full responsibility for it."

He stepped toward Ruth Mason, Mei Santos, and Omar Bell.

"Effective immediately," Logan announced, "the fourteenth floor is being completely restructured. We are eliminating the old hierarchical management bottleneck. This department will now operate as the Global Operations Oversight Division—reporting directly to my office on the top floor."

A wave of astonished gasps swept through the room.

"Ruth Mason," Logan said, looking at the senior compliance analyst. "For six years, you produced flawless compliance reports that were buried or stolen by Vanessa. Starting tomorrow, you are the new Director of Compliance Operations for this division, with a three-hundred-percent salary increase and full authority to rebuild this team."

Ruth’s eyes welled with tears. She placed a trembling hand over her mouth, unable to speak, before nodding deeply. "Thank you, Mr. Carter... thank you."

"Omar Bell," Logan turned to the quiet coordinator. "Your private notebooks contained the most precise, meticulous documentation of internal operational inefficiencies I have ever read. You are being promoted to Senior Risk Analyst, reporting directly to the executive board."

Omar stood up straight, his chest puffing out with pride, a bright, tearful smile breaking across his face. "I won't let you down, sir."

"And Mei Santos," Logan smiled at the young analyst who had offered him half her sandwich on his first day. "You are being named Lead Project Coordinator. And your first assignment is to oversee the complete renovation of this floor. New desks, ergonomic chairs, modern lighting, and a fully stocked breakroom."

Mei covered her face with her hands, letting out a sob of pure, overwhelming relief and joy.

The entire floor erupted into spontaneous, thunderous applause. Analysts cheered, hugged each other, and wiped away tears of joy that had been suppressed for years under Vanessa’s cruel reign.

Logan stood among them, shaking hands, listening to their stories, and thanking them for their resilience.

He didn't act like a distant billionaire monarch descending from a mountain. He acted like a leader who had walked in their shoes, bled in their trenches, and fought to give them the dignity they had earned.

As the celebration continued, Greg from HR walked up to Logan, holding a small clipboard.

"Mr. Carter," Greg whispered with a smile. "There is one more matter regarding the former management team."

Logan’s eyes narrowed slightly. "What is it?"

"Vanessa Brooks, Derek Walsh, and Paula Simmons are currently being processed at the federal holding facility downtown," Greg explained. "Their attorneys have requested permission for them to return briefly under armed guard tomorrow morning to retrieve their personal items from their desks."

Logan looked at the empty glass offices, then down at his pocket where Mia’s drawing rested safely.

A slow, decisive smile spread across Logan’s face.

"Grant the request, Greg," Logan said smoothly. "And make sure every employee on this floor is here to watch."
