Chapter 4 - Blood on the MarbleThe clock in the grand hallway struck midnight, signaling the peak of the winter solstice gala. The string quartet played a frantic waltz, its upbeat tempo masking the rising tension beneath the surface.

Lorenzo Costa slipped away from the main ballroom, accompanied by three of his most trusted enforcers. They moved with heavy, deliberate steps toward the secluded corridors of the east wing, their handguns drawn and ready.
"Find the girl," Lorenzo whispered harshly to his men as they reached the dim hallway outside the staff quarters. "Make it quick. Dump her body in the snow outside. By morning, the blizzard will have buried her."
The enforcers nodded, fanatically loyal to their volatile capo. They split up, two heading toward the pantry and one sweeping the main corridor.
The enforcer walking the main corridor turned a corner—and stopped dead in his tracks.
Standing in the middle of the hallway, bathed in the pale blue light of the snowstorm outside, was Khloe. She had discarded her maid's apron. She wore a dark, form-fitting tactical undershirt, her hair tied back tightly. In her right hand, she held the stilletto knife, light gleaming off the steel.
"What the—" the enforcer raised his pistol, but before his finger could squeeze the trigger, Khloe vanished from sight.
A blur of motion.
Before the man could pivot, Khloe materialized directly behind him. Her left arm locked tightly around his throat, cutting off his airway, while her right hand drove the knife home with surgical precision. He dropped without making a sound, sliding softly against the patterned wallpaper.
At the other end of the corridor, Lorenzo heard a muffled thump.
"Hey! Who's there?" Lorenzo barked, stepping forward with his gun raised.
From the shadows of the doorway stepped Nicholas Moretti, flanked by Enzo Cortez and four heavily armed syndicate guards. Nicholas looked utterly calm, sliding his hands casually into the pockets of his tailored trousers.
"Looking for someone, Lorenzo?" Nicholas asked, his voice echoing coldly down the marble hall.
Lorenzo’s face drained of color. He lowered his gun slightly, realizing he had walked straight into an execution chamber. "Nicholas... what is this? I was just—"
"You were hunting," Nicholas interrupted, stepping forward. "In my house. Without my permission."
"That maid—she’s a threat! She’s an operative!" Lorenzo yelled, desperation creeping into his voice as he raised his weapon toward Nicholas.
Before Lorenzo could fire, a shadow dropped from the high vaulted ceiling directly behind him.
Khloe landed silently on the marble floor. With a swift, brutal kick, she knocked the pistol out of Lorenzo’s hand, sending it clattering across the floor. Before Lorenzo could turn, she swept his legs out from under him, pinning him face-first to the cold stone with her knee planted squarely between his shoulder blades.
Lorenzo screamed in agony as the pressure threatened to crush his spine.

Nicholas walked slowly over, stopping just inches from Lorenzo’s thrashing face. He looked down with absolute detachment.
"You wanted to know who she is, Lorenzo?" Nicholas said quietly. "She is the only reason you've been breathing this long. And your time has just run out."
