Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Well

Damon and Virginia escalated. They petitioned the court for emergency guardianship, claiming Harper was a danger to the fetus.
"The hearing is in three days," Damon whispered to her one night, slipping into the guest house, trying to be the charming husband one last time. "Just drop this, Harper. Tell them your father is delusional. We can start over. I’ll make sure you get the best treatment."
Harper looked at him, her eyes empty of the love he had manipulated for years. "You think you’re the hunter, Damon. But you never noticed that I was the one holding the scalpel."
She handed him a stack of papers.
He glanced at them, and his breath hitched. They were the original patents for the company’s signature medical software—patents signed by Elias Quinn, never transferred, only forged by the Caldwells.
"I found the original ink signatures, Damon," Harper said. "The statute of limitations on fraud is long, but the evidence of your mother’s involvement? That’s going to make this a felony racketeering case."
