Chapter 3 - Uncovering the Financial WebWith Salvatore neutralized, the true extent of the betrayal began to unravel. Elena sat behind a gleaming mahogany desk in the private library, her fingers flying across a secure terminal as she cross-referenced bank records, shipping manifests, and medical supply invoices.

Her background as an impoverished nursing and accounting student—forced to drop out after her mother’s death—had left her with a relentless eye for numerical anomalies. While the high-priced forensic accountants Salvatore had hired over the years missed the hidden trails, Elena found them in a matter of hours.
"Mr. Falcone," Elena said late that evening, looking up as Gabriel walked into the room carrying a cup of black coffee. He set it gently on her desk.
"Call me Gabriel, Elena. We've moved past formal titles," he said, pulling up a chair beside her desk. "What did you find?"
"Salvatore didn't just try to assassinate you with Dr. Cole's help," Elena explained, turning her monitor toward him. "Look at these offshore accounts. Over the past eighteen months, he systematically funneled nearly twelve million dollars from our port operations into dummy corporations registered in the Cayman Islands. But that's not all. He was actively negotiating a merger with the Moretti syndicate in New Jersey behind your back, trading our shipping lanes for a guaranteed payout once you were gone."
Gabriel studied the screen, his jaw tightening. A quiet, terrifying fury settled over his features. "He wanted my empire, and he was willing to sell out our people to foreign syndicates to get it."
"And there's something else," Elena added softly, pointing to a smaller file. "The hospital debts my mother left behind... the ones that forced me to take a job scrubbing floors at your estate... Salvatore's private corporate foundation bought out those debts three years ago and artificially inflated the interest rates to trap my family in endless servitude. He liked having desperate people around who had no choice but to keep their heads down."
Gabriel’s head snapped toward her, his gray eyes burning with sudden, fierce intensity. "Your mother's debts?"
May you like
"Yes," Elena said steadily. "Cleared and closed as of ten minutes ago, using funds automatically debited from Salvatore’s personal frozen accounts."
Gabriel reached out, his hand gently covering hers on the desk. "No one in this city will ever hold your past over your head again, Elena. You belong to no one now—except yourself."
