Laura stood by the window, holding a warm cup of herbal tea. Her hair had grown back into a stylish, soft pixie cut, her skin was radiant with health, and her latest medical scans showed complete, miraculous remission. The cancer was gone.
Behind her, the large mahogany desk was piled with architectural blueprints and charitable trust documents.
Following the liquidation of Richard’s firm and the house—which Richard had been forced to leave, along with Chloe, who abandoned him the moment his bank accounts were frozen—Valeria had restructured the $90 million estate. Together, Laura and Valeria established the Vance-Miller Foundation for Women’s Healthcare, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free cancer screenings, financial assistance, and mental health support for patients undergoing treatment.
The door opened, and Valeria walked in, carrying two hot lattes and a wide, radiant smile.
"Morning, Director Vance," Valeria teased, setting a cup on the desk. "The board meeting starts in twenty minutes. The new wing at the downtown medical center is officially fully funded."
Laura turned around, looking at her daughter with overwhelming pride. "You've done an incredible job, Valeria. Your uncle Arthur would be so proud."
"He made the right choice," Valeria said softly, walking over to wrap her arms around Laura in a tight, warm embrace. "And so did I."
