Chapter 4 - The Recovery & The Bond of Blood

The aftermath of the Crimson Gala was handled with swift, terrifying efficiency.
Within four hours, the estate was cleaned, the bodies were removed, and the media was briefed on a "gas explosion at a private estate." Dominic’s control over the city was absolute, solidified by the total destruction of the Vane syndicate and the purging of all traitors within his ranks.
Two weeks later, Lena entered the hospital for her planned surgery.
Dr. Vance successfully excised the remaining tumor. When Lena woke up in the recovery suite, her eyes fluttered open to find Dominic sitting in a chair beside her bed, holding her hand.
His eyes were bloodshot, dark circles under them proving he hadn't slept for forty-eight hours.
"Dominic..." Lena rasped softly, her throat dry.
He sat up instantly, squeezing her hand, pressing his lips against her knuckles. "I'm here, Lena. The surgery was a complete success. Dr. Vance said you are officially cancer-free."
Tears spilled over Lena’s cheeks—not tears of fear, but of profound, overwhelming relief. The dark shadow that had haunted her for over a year was finally gone.
"Thank you," she whispered. "Thank you for saving my life."
"You saved mine first," Dominic replied, leaning forward, his face inches from hers. "When Eva died seven years ago, I locked my heart in a dark vault. I believed I was only meant to destroy, to rule, to protect Lily from a distance. But then you walked into my life with eight dollars in your pocket and gave everything you had to save my daughter."
He reached up, gently brushing a tear from her cheek.
"I love you, Lena Marks," Dominic said, his voice trembling with rare, absolute sincerity. "Not as a guardian. Not as an employee. I love you as the woman who completed my home."
Lena stared at him, her heart bursting with love she had tried so hard to suppress. She pulled his head down, pressing her lips against his in a soft, passionate kiss that sealed their unspoken truth.
"I love you too, Dominic," she whispered against his lips.
When Lena returned to the estate three days later, she was met with a surprise.
The grand courtyard was decorated with ribbons, and Lily came running down the steps holding a large banner that read: WELCOME HOME, MOMMY LENA!
Lena froze, looking down at the little girl who threw her arms around her waist.
"Can I call you Mommy?" Lily asked, looking up with big silver-blue eyes filled with hope. "Daddy said if you agree, we can be a real family forever."
Lena dropped to her knees, pulling Lily into a warm, fierce embrace, tears of joy streaming down her face. "Yes, little bird. Yes, you can call me Mommy."
Dominic walked down the steps, pulling a small black velvet box from his coat pocket. He knelt beside them on the stone steps.
He opened the box, revealing a stunning platinum ring set with a brilliant oval-cut diamond, flanked by two small garnet stones matching the wolf eyes from Lily's bracelet.
"Lena Marks," Dominic said, looking into her eyes. "Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, the matriarch of the Rosetti family, and the mother of my child?"
May you like
"Yes!" Lena cried out, laughing through her tears. "A thousand times yes!"
Dominic slipped the ring onto her finger, pulling her and Lily into a tight embrace as the afternoon sun broke through the clouds, bathing the white stone estate in brilliant, golden light.
