Chapter 5 - The Siege on the Shadow Syndicate

Six months later.
Though Victor Rosetti and Marcus Vane were gone, the remnants of the Vane syndicate—led by Marcus’s ruthless eldest son, Julian Vane—had assembled a mercenary army in the industrial shipping docks of South Chicago.
Determined to avenge his father and seize control of the Midwest trade routes, Julian launched a final, desperate attack.
It happened during an afternoon trip when Lena and Lily were returning from a pediatric checkup in downtown Chicago.
A heavy armored truck rammed the rear of Lena’s security detail convoy, forcing her SUV off the road and into an abandoned industrial warehouse district near the river.
"Hold your positions!" the lead security driver shouted as bullet fire rained down on the bulletproof glass.
"Mommy, I'm scared!" Lily cried, clutching Lena’s jacket in the backseat.
"Stay down, baby!" Lena shouted, pulling Lily onto the floorboards and covering her body with her own.
Outside, ten heavily armed mercenaries advanced on the vehicle, firing high-caliber armor-piercing rounds. The driver was hit through the windshield, and the secondary guard was incapacitated.
Julian Vane stepped up to the cracked window, a cruel sneer on his face. "Get them out!"
The mercenaries used heavy crowbars to pry open the damaged door, pulling Lena and Lily out onto the cold concrete of the warehouse floor.
Julian laughed, crouching down in front of Lena, who glared at him with pure defiance despite the bleeding cut on her forehead.
"So this is the waitress Dominic Rosetti fell in love with," Julian sneered, slapping her across the face. "You're going to be my bargaining chip. Dominic will surrender his entire territory to save his precious wife and daughter."
Lena spat blood onto Julian’s polished boots. "Dominic isn't going to surrender to a boy playing soldier. He’s going to tear you apart."
Before Julian could answer, the warehouse roof exploded inward.
Four black tactical helicopters hovered directly above the skylights, their searchlights blinding the mercenaries below. Heavy ropes dropped from the sky, and twenty elite Rosetti strike operatives descended into the building like shadows.
At the head of the assault was Dominic Rosetti.
He wore full black tactical armor, his face set in a murderous expression that struck instant terror into the hearts of Julian’s men.
"Kill them!" Julian screamed, grabbing Lily as a hostage.
Dominic didn't hesitate. He fired three rapid shots, taking down the two guards surrounding Lena.
Lena, acting with lightning speed, kicked Julian hard in the knee. Julian stumbled, dropping Lily. Lena grabbed her daughter, rolling behind a steel shipping crate as heavy gunfire erupted across the warehouse.
Dominic advanced through the firefight like an unstoppable force of nature. Every shot he fired found its mark. Within ninety seconds, Julian’s entire mercenary team lay neutralized on the floor.
Julian, wounded and desperate, tried to crawl toward a side exit.
Dominic stepped onto his back, crushing his chest against the concrete floor, leveling his rifle directly at the back of Julian’s head.
"Please... Rosetti..." Julian gasped, coughing up blood. "Take the territory... just let me live..."
Dominic looked over at Lena and Lily, who were standing safely behind the steel crate, unharmed.
"My family is sacred," Dominic said coldly.
He pulled the trigger.
The last threat against the Rosetti family was extinguished forever.

Dominic dropped his weapon, sprinting across the warehouse floor and gathering Lena and Lily into his arms. He held them so tight that none of them could breathe, kissing Lena’s hair, her cheeks, her lips, over and over again.
"It’s over," Dominic breathed, his chest heaving. "It’s finally over."
