Chapter 6 - The Grammar of ForeverSix months later.

The summer sun beamed down on the rolling hills of Tuscany.
Near the historic city of Florence, a grand sixteenth-century villa sat perched among rows of olive trees and vibrant vineyards. The air smelled of sweet jasmine, crushed grapes, and warm earth.
The estate had been purchased four months earlier by Moretti International—which was no longer a crime syndicate, but a fully legitimate, multi-billion-dollar global logistics and freight enterprise. With Carmine Marcone in prison and the old rivalries dismantled, Matteo had systematically cleaned up his family’s operations, selling off illegal assets and transitioning entirely into legal trade, real estate, and philanthropy.
In the villa’s courtyard, fifty guests sat in gilded white chairs: university professors from Florence, former coworkers from Boston, business leaders, and Tessa’s remaining family.
Near the marble fountain, Matteo stood wearing a bespoke charcoal tuxedo. He looked strikingly handsome, his dark hair neatly styled, his jaw clean-shaved, a look of serene, profound happiness resting on his face.
Beside him stood Giancarlo, who served as his best man, wearing a proud, wide smile.
The gentle strings of a harp began to play a classic Italian love ballad.
The guests stood up.
Tessa walked out through the villa’s double archway.
She took everyone’s breath away.
She wore a breathtaking, custom-made Italian lace wedding gown with a flowing train that brushed against the ancient stone courtyard. Her dark hair fell in soft, elegant curls around her shoulders, adorned with small white orange blossoms.
She was no longer the exhausted waitress in electrical-taped shoes. She was a scholar, an executive, a woman loved with a fierce, eternal devotion.
She walked down the aisle alone, her chin held high, her bright eyes locked entirely on Matteo.
Matteo watched her approach, his heart beating wildly in his chest, tears of pure joy glistening in his dark eyes.
When she reached the marble altar, Matteo stepped forward, gently taking her soft hands in his.
The Italian priest smiled, opening a leather-bound book. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the heart of Tuscany to unite Matteo Moretti and Tessa Vance in holy matrimony."
The ceremony was spoken in fluid, beautiful Tuscan Italian—the language Tessa had dedicated her life to studying.
When it came time for the vows, Matteo pulled a small, handwritten piece of parchment from his jacket. He looked down into Tessa’s eyes, his voice deep, warm, and rich with emotion.
"Tessa," Matteo said in flawless, poetic Italian, his voice echoing through the sunny courtyard. "Six months ago, I was a man living in darkness, surrounded by enemies, speaking a language of violence and fear. I thought the world was divided into those who rule and those who serve."
He squeezed her hands tightly.
"Then you stood beside my table in a dirty restaurant. You corrected my grammar, you saw through my armor, and you taught me that true power isn't found in fear, but in truth, intellect, and love. You saved my life, you saved my soul, and you gave me a future. I promise to love you, to honor you, and to stand beside you as your equal for all the days of my life."
Tessa wiped a tear of pure happiness from her cheek, smiling radiantly as she looked into his eyes.
"Matteo," Tessa whispered, her voice steady and full of profound love. "I used to think my life was defined by subtraction—by debt, loss, and survival. I thought my dreams were buried forever. But you saw me when I felt invisible. You gave me a voice when I was silent. You showed me that behind the dangerous man the world feared was a noble heart worthy of love. I promise to stand by your side, to build our home together, and to never let you mess up your Calabrese grammar ever again."
The crowd let out a warm, joyful laugh.
Matteo pulled a flawless, six-carat emerald-cut diamond ring from his pocket—custom-designed in Milan—and slid it onto her finger. Tessa took a matching platinum band and slid it onto his left hand.
"By the authority vested in me," the priest announced with a beaming smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Matteo, you may kiss your bride."
Matteo didn't wait a second.
He wrapped his strong arms around her waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, and pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss under the warm Tuscan sun.
The courtyard erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and happy tears. Glasses of Prosecco clinked, petals of white roses were tossed into the air, and music filled the hillside.
When Matteo finally set her back down, Tessa leaned her head against his chest, smelling his familiar, intoxicating scent of rich leather and sweet citrus.
"How does it feel, Signora Moretti?" Matteo whispered into her ear, his eyes shining with boundless love.

Tessa looked up at her husband, her heart full, her future bright, her soul finally at home.
"It feels grammatically perfect, my love," she whispered back, kissing him once more as the Tuscan sun bathed them in gold.
