Chapter 6 - A New DawnSix months later.

The summer sun beamed brightly over Lake Michigan, painting the water in brilliant shades of sapphire and gold. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and salty lake breeze.

On the manicured lawns of a private estate in Evanston, a celebration was underway.

The West Side Syndicate was no more. Following the night of the penthouse attack, federal authorities—bolstered by anonymous, ironclad evidence provided by Moretti Global Logistics—had dismantled the corrupt network entirely. The city of Chicago was finally experiencing a peace it hadn't known in decades.

Inside a bright, elegant pavilion, a grand party was taking place.

Marco Rossi stood near the dessert table, looking healthy, vibrant, and full of life. His cheeks had regained their rosy color, his bone marrow transplant had been a 100% success, and he was preparing to start his freshman year at Northwestern University in the fall.

"Hey, kid," Vincent Gallo said, walking over in a sharp gray suit, holding a plate of pastries. "Your sister made these cannolis. Better get them before the security team eats them all."

Marco laughed, taking a pastry. "Thanks, Vince. She’s been practicing for weeks."

Near the glass doors opening out onto the terrace, Bella Rossi stood wearing a breathtaking lace dress the color of champagne. Her dark hair was styled in elegant waves, and a sparkling diamond necklace rested against her collarbone.

She was no longer the exhausted, terrified waitress at Lucia’s. She was a confident, radiant woman who had fought for her family and won.

Beside her, a grand wooden sign rested on an easel, decorated with white ribbons and gold lettering:

ROSSETTI’S PASTRY & CAFE

Grand Opening - Orchard Street, Chicago

Alessandro stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder. He looked dashing in a tailored navy suit, his scar giving him a distinguished, dangerously handsome edge.

"Everything is set for Tuesday," Alessandro whispered into her ear, his deep voice sending pleasant shivers down her spine. "The city permits are signed, the kitchen equipment is installed, and the grand opening invitation list includes every mayor, senator, and business leader in Illinois."

Bella turned in his arms, smiling brightly as she rested her hands on his crisp lapels. "You didn't have to bribe the health inspector, did you?"

Alessandro chuckled, his dark eyes crinkling with genuine warmth. "For the first time in my life, Bella, everything was done completely above board. Though Vincent did politely inform the inspector that a bad review would result in a very uncomfortable conversation."

"Alessandro!" Bella playfully scolded, tapping his chest.

"I'm joking, my love," he smiled, pressing a sweet kiss to her lips. "It passed with flying colors because your pastries are perfection."

He pulled a small velvet box from his pocket, taking her hand gently.

Bella’s heart skipped a beat. "Alessandro..."

He opened the box, revealing a breathtaking oval-cut pink diamond ring surrounded by a halo of micro-diamonds that caught the sunlight like a star.

"Two years ago, I thought my life was defined by shadows, war, and endless obligations," Alessandro said, looking into her hazel eyes with absolute devotion. "Then a fierce, beautiful waitress grabbed my wrist at Table 12 and reminded me what it felt like to be human. You saved my soul, Bella. You gave me a reason to build something clean, something good."

He sank gracefully onto one knee on the sunny terrace, holding the ring up toward her.

"Bella Rossi, will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife? Will you rule my heart, my life, and my world forever?"

Gasps of delight rippled through the gathered guests. Marco cheered loudly from the pavilion, and even the stoic Vincent Gallo had a wide, proud grin on his face.

Tears of pure happiness welled up in Bella’s eyes. She looked down at the man who had protected her, healed her brother, and loved her with an unshakeable, fiercely loyal heart.

"Yes!" Bella cried out, her voice filled with joyful certainty. "Yes, Alessandro! A thousand times yes!"

Alessandro slid the ring onto her finger, standing up and sweeping her off her feet as he pulled her into a passionate, triumphant kiss. The guests erupted into thunderous applause, raising their glasses to toast the couple.

As the sun set over Lake Michigan, casting a warm golden glow over the estate, Alessandro held Bella tightly against his side. The darkness of the past was gone, replaced by the brilliant, promising dawn of a future they would build together—hand in hand, side by side, forever unbroken.
