Part 1: The Gathering Storm at the Estate

The water from Celeste’s glass felt icy against my skin, but inside, a quiet, boiling fury took root. I stood by the iron gates of my own estate, watching her white sports car disappear up the winding, tree-lined driveway. The shards of the crystal glass she had thrown at my feet glinted in the morning sun.

"Sir..."

I turned to see Thomas, one of my senior groundskeepers, running toward me with a clean towel, his face pale with shock. He had witnessed the entire interaction from the rose bushes. "Mr. Vale, I am so sorry. We should have her arrested. We should call security immediately."

"Calm down, Thomas," I said, my voice steady as I took the towel and wiped the water from my gray beard and the collar of the borrowed uniform. "She thinks she just humiliated an old, defenseless gatekeeper. Let her enjoy that illusion for a few more hours."

"And her father, sir?" Thomas pointed to the envelope Arthur Marrow had handed me, assuming I was a corruptible servant.

I opened the envelope. Inside was a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills and a typed contract detailing how Marrow Logistics would secretly replace Vale Global’s trusted, certified food and security vendors the moment Celeste and Adrian tied the knot. It wasn't just arrogance; it was a hostile takeover from the inside out, built on bribery and deceit.

"Keep this safe," I told Thomas, handing him the envelope. "This is the first nail in their coffin. Now, go back to your duties. Do not say a word to anyone. Tonight, we host a dinner to remember."

I walked back into the security booth, locked the door, and removed the heavy navy coat. Beneath it, the micro-camera sewn into my collar had captured everything—Celeste’s cruel smile, her venomous words, and her father’s blatant attempt at corporate espionage. I transferred the footage to an encrypted server and sent it directly to my head of security, Marcus, and my chief legal counsel, Evelyn.

Within five minutes, my encrypted phone buzzed. It was Evelyn.

"Edward, I just saw the footage," her voice was sharp, laced with disbelief. "The Marrow family has been struggling financially for the past two years. We suspected they were looking for a lifeline, but this... this is predatory. Do you want me to freeze their active contracts with our subsidiaries?"

"Not yet," I replied, staring out the window at my sprawling mansion in the distance. "If we cut them off now, they will play the victims. They will twist Adrian’s heart and make him believe we are tyrants trying to control his love life. No, Evelyn. We let them think they’ve won. Let them walk right into the trap."

"And Adrian?" she asked softly. "He loves her, Edward. This is going to break him."

My heart heavy, I looked at a framed photograph on the desk—a picture of my late wife, Martha, holding a young Adrian. “Never let wealth choose his heart for him,” she had whispered on her deathbed. I had protected Adrian from the vultures of high society his entire life, but he had grown up too trusting, too pure-forgiving.

"Adrian is a Vale," I said firmly. "He is blind right now, but when the veil is lifted, he will do what is right. Prepare the board of directors. Tell them to be on standby for an emergency video conference at 8:00 PM tonight. And Evelyn? Dress for a celebration. We are pruning the dead branches from our family tree."
