Part 4: The Veil is Torn

The projector flared to life. The video quality was crystal clear, high-definition audio filling the room.

The screen showed the perspective of the gatekeeper’s booth. It showed Celeste’s white sports car aggressively slamming its brakes. It played the harsh sound of her horn.

On screen, Celeste stepped out of her car, her face twisted in a sneer.

“You people always cling to tiny scraps of authority,” her recorded voice echoed through the dining room.

Adrian gasped, staring at the screen in utter horror. Celeste’s face drained of all color. She reached out to grab Adrian’s arm, but he violently pulled away, his eyes glued to the screen.

The video continued. It showed Celeste pouring the glass of water over the old man's head, shouting, “Let me wash the filth off you.” It showed her throwing the glass at his feet.

"No... Adrian, that’s... that’s a deepfake! That’s manipulated!" Celeste shrieked, standing up from her chair, her perfect composure shattering into raw panic. "Edward is trying to frame me! He hates me!"

"Sit down, Celeste," I said coldly.

The video transitioned smoothly to the next clip, filmed just ten minutes later. It showed Arthur Marrow leaning out of his luxury sedan, handing an envelope to the very same gatekeeper.

“Give this to the kitchen manager,” Arthur’s voice boomed through the speakers. “Cash only. No records.”

"Dad..." Adrian’s voice broke. He looked at the screen, then at Celeste, then at me. The realization was hitting him like a tidal wave, but there was one piece of the puzzle he was still missing. "How did you get this footage? Who filmed this?"

I stood up from the head of the table. Slowly, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the faded, wrinkled navy gatekeeper’s cap I had worn that morning. I tossed it onto the center of the dining table, right over Celeste’s plate.

"The gatekeeper wasn't named Walter Reed, Adrian," I said softly, looking at my son with profound sorrow and fierce protection. "It was me. I wore the uniform. I stood at the gate."

Celeste collapsed back into her chair, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Arthur looked as though he were about to have a heart attack.

"You..." Celeste whispered, staring at me with a mixture of terror and realization. "You were the old man."

"I am the billionaire who owns this estate," I corrected her, my voice echoing like thunder. "And until five minutes ago, I owned your family’s future."
