Part 5: The Reckoning

Adrian stood up so fast his chair toppled over backward. He looked at Celeste, the woman he thought he loved, the woman he thought was a saint.
"You poured water on my father," Adrian said, his voice shaking with a terrifying, quiet rage. "You insulted him. You treated him like garbage. And your father... you came into our home to rob us."
"Adrian, please! I didn't know!" Celeste cried, tears streaming down her face, ruining her expensive makeup. "I was stressed! The gatekeeper—I mean, your father—he was provoking me! It was an accident! I love you, Adrian! We can still get married, we can fix this!"
"Get out," Adrian whispered.
"Adrian, listen to reason—" Arthur started, rising to defend his daughter, but Adrian slammed his hand on the table.
"I said get out!" Adrian roared. "The engagement is over. The wedding is canceled. Security!"
The dining room doors flew open, and Marcus, alongside four heavily armed security guards, stepped into the room.
"Wait," I intervened, raising a hand. "Before they are escorted off my property, there is a matter of business to conclude. Bring up the board, Evelyn."
I opened my laptop. On the massive projector screen, the faces of Vale Global’s twelve board directors appeared via an emergency video link. They had all been sent the footage, along with a comprehensive audit of Marrow Holdings.
"Members of the board," I announced, facing the camera. "As majority shareholder and Chairman of Vale Global, I am officially calling for an immediate termination of all supply chain, logistics, and credit agreements with Marrow Holdings, effective immediately. Furthermore, we are calling in the $450 million in short-term loans our banking division extended to them last quarter, to be repaid within twenty-four hours."
"Edward, please! That will destroy us! We will go bankrupt by tomorrow morning!" Arthur begged, falling to his knees. "Please, have mercy! We have been partners for years!"
"You chose to bite the hand that fed you, Arthur," I said, looking down at him without a shred of emotion. "You targeted my son. You insulted my late wife's memory by trying to turn our family into a transaction. Board, do I have your votes?"
One by one, the directors raised their hands. "Unanimous, Mr. Vale," Evelyn responded from the screen. "The paperwork is already filed. Marrow Holdings is blacklisted globally. Their stock trading will be halted in the morning."

I looked back at the ruined family. "Marcus, throw this filth off my property. And ensure they walk down the driveway. They don't deserve to ride in a car on my land."
Celeste, Eleanor, and Arthur were forcefully but legally escorted out of the mansion, their screams and tears fading into the night as the heavy oak doors shut behind them.
