Part 3: The Dinner of Deception

At 7:00 PM, the grand dining room of the Vale Estate was bathed in the warm glow of crystal chandeliers. The table was set with fine porcelain, silver cutlery, and a lavish multi-course meal prepared by our top chefs.
Arthur Marrow and his wife, Eleanor, arrived first, draped in expensive designer clothes that masked their impending bankruptcy. Celeste followed, looking radiant in a cream silk dress—the very same dress she wore while drenching me in water hours earlier. She looked poised, elegant, and entirely devoid of guilt.
When I entered the room, Arthur immediately stepped forward, his hand extended, a sycophantic grin plastered across his face.
"Edward! My dear friend! It is an absolute honor," Arthur boomed, shaking my hand warmly. He had no idea that the "filthy old gatekeeper" he had handed a bribe to earlier was the man standing before him in a $10,000 suit.
"Arthur, Eleanor. Welcome," I said, my voice dripping with polite poison. I turned my gaze to Celeste. "And Celeste, you look breathtaking tonight."
"Thank you, Mr. Vale," Celeste said, offering a sweet, modest smile that would have fooled an angel. "It’s a privilege to be here. I was just telling Adrian how beautiful the estate grounds are, though... we did encounter a slight unpleasantness at the entrance today."
"Oh?" I took my seat at the head of the table. Adrian sat to my right, Celeste to his right, and her parents opposite them. "What happened?"
Celeste sighed dramatically, leaning against Adrian’s shoulder. "An old gatekeeper. He was terribly rude, demanding bribes just to let us pass. When I refused, he became aggressive. I felt so unsafe, Edward. I hope he’s been dealt with."
"He has been dealt with," I assured her, pouring myself a glass of red wine. "In fact, I’ve looked into the matter thoroughly. But before we discuss termination, Arthur, let's talk about business. I understand you handed that same gatekeeper an envelope today?"
Arthur froze, a piece of steak halfway to his mouth. His eyes darted nervously to his wife, then back to me. "Ah... yes! Yes, I did. It was just a small holiday bonus for the staff. You know me, Edward, always looking out for the working class."
"A bonus?" I mused aloud. "With detailed instructions to illegally terminate Vale Global’s contracted vendors and replace them with your own sub-par logistics company without my son's knowledge? That’s quite a generous 'bonus', Arthur."
The room fell dead silent. The clinking of silverware stopped instantly. Adrian looked between me and Arthur, his brow furrowing in deep confusion.
"Dad? What are you talking about?" Adrian asked, his voice tense. "What envelope?"
"Edward, surely there's been a misunderstanding," Eleanor chimed in, her voice trembling slightly. "Arthur would never—"

"Quiet, Eleanor," I commanded, my tone shifting from polite host to the ruthless billionaire who built an empire. I pressed a button beneath the dining table. A large projector screen descended from the ceiling against the far wall of the dining room.
"Let's clear up the misunderstanding, shall we?"
