Chapter 2 - The Confrontation
When Mark quietly unlocked the front door of his suburban home, the house was eerily silent. He walked down the hallway, his heart hammering against his ribs. He bypassed the living room and went straight to the nursery.
Sarah was kneeling by the crib, folding a tiny blanket, her shoulders slumped in exhaustion. Linda was standing near the window, rocking a sleeping Oliver with a warm, maternal smile that now made Mark feel physically sick.
"Oh, Mark, sweetheart! You’re home early!" Linda beamed, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Sarah was just saying how tired she was, so I stepped in to handle the baby. Honestly, I don't know what she'd do without me."
Mark didn't look at his mother. He walked straight over to Sarah, knelt down beside her, and took her trembling hands in his. "Sarah," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I saw the camera feed. From 1:42 p.m. I saw all of it."
Sarah’s breath hitched. A look of sheer, unadulterated panic crossed her face. She immediately pulled her hands away, stepping back as if expecting a blow. "Mark, no... please, it's not what you think—"
"What camera?" Linda’s voice instantly lost its warmth, turning sharp and defensive.
Mark stood up, turning to face his mother. The blind deference he had shown her his entire life died in that single second. "I installed a security camera in the nursery, Mom. I saw you grab my wife by her hair. I heard you threaten to take my son away. Get out of my house. Right now."

Linda’s eyes narrowed into slits. The sweet grandmother persona evaporated, replaced by the cold, calculating tyrant Mark had subconsciously feared his whole life. "You dare speak to me that way? After everything I sacrificed for you? That hysterical girl has twisted your mind! She's lazy, Mark! I was just teaching her how to be a real wife!"
"Out!" Mark roared, the sound echoing through the house, waking Oliver, who began to wail. "If you ever come near my wife or my son again, I will have the police drag you away."
