Chapter 4 - Unearthing the Past
Mark hired a ferocious family law attorney, giving him the nursery camera footage. But the attorney warned him: "The footage proves an assault, which will help us secure a restraining order for Sarah. But your mother’s legal team is aggressive. They will argue it was an isolated, high-stress incident and push for joint custody or mandatory visitation using the family trust's influence over the court."
To defeat Linda permanently, Mark needed to prove a systemic pattern of abusive, narcissistic behavior. He began digging into his family's past—secrets his father had taken to the grave.
He traveled to his hometown to visit his estranged aunt, Evelyn—Linda’s younger sister, whom Linda had completely cut off from the family twenty years ago under the claim that Evelyn was "mentally unhinged."
Sitting in Evelyn’s modest kitchen, Mark finally learned the truth.
"Your mother didn't cut me off because I was sick, Mark," Evelyn said softly, handing him an old, dust-covered box of legal files. "She cut me off because I discovered what she did to your older brother, David."
Mark froze. "I don't have a brother named David."

"You did," Evelyn countered, her eyes filled with ancient grief. "Before you were born, Linda had another son. David was a strong-willed child. He didn't fit Linda’s perfect, controllable mold. She abused him emotionally, locked him away, and gaslit your father into believing the boy was insane. When David was just sixteen, he couldn't take the torment anymore and ran away. Your mother erased him from the family records, paid off the local authorities to bury the runaway report, and forced your father into silence."
Inside the box were the original police reports, diary entries from David, and medical records detailing Linda's psychological abuse. Linda was a serial emotional predator who destroyed anyone she couldn't completely dominate.
