Chapter 3 - The Depths of the Trap

Linda left, but the nightmare was far from over.
The next morning, as Mark and Sarah were finally beginning to talk—Sarah weeping in relief as she confessed to months of emotional and physical torment—a knock came at the door. It wasn't the police; it was a process server.
Linda hadn't retreated. She had gone on the attack.
Mark opened the envelope to find a legal petition for emergency temporary guardianship of Oliver, alongside a grandparents' rights visitation lawsuit. Attached to the petition was a fabricated psychological evaluation of Sarah, alongside statements from Linda’s wealthy, influential friends claiming Sarah was an unfit, unstable mother who was neglecting the child.
Worse still, Linda had utilized her power as the primary trustee of Mark’s late father’s estate. Within hours, Mark received a notice from the bank: his corporate accounts, which were legally tied to the family trust, had been completely frozen. Linda was attempting to financially suffocate them into submission, knowing Mark couldn't fund a massive legal battle without access to his assets.

"She’s going to take him, Mark," Sarah sobbed, clutching Oliver tightly to her chest in their living room. "She told me she would. She has the money, the connections... everyone thinks she's a saint."
Mark held his family close, a cold determination settling over him. "She has money, Sarah. But she doesn't have the truth. And she doesn't know that I am willing to burn her entire legacy to the ground to protect you."
