Part 4: The Counter-Attack

The next morning, the corporate machine struck back.
I was blocked from entering Elena’s room by three court-appointed baliffs. Marcus stood behind them, a smug grin plastered across his face. He held a stack of legal documents.
"Emergency injunction, Daniel," Marcus said, tapping the papers against his palm. "The court has deemed you mentally unstable due to grief. Temporary guardianship of Elena and her medical decisions has been granted to Mother. We are transferring her to our private facility in twenty minutes."
"You can't do this, Marcus," I said, my voice trembling with simulated panic. I needed him to think he was winning. "She’s my wife!"
"She was a billionaire who made a mistake marrying a charity case," Marcus whispered, leaning in so the baliffs couldn't hear. "Enjoy your cheap suit, Daniel. You’ll be wearing it to her real funeral next week."
As they wheeled Elena out on a secure gurney, Vivian walked past me. She didn't even look at me. She just adjusted her fur coat and murmured, "Clean up this mess, Marcus."
But what Marcus didn't know was that Arthur and I had spent the night working. The moment the ambulance carrying Elena left St. Jude's, a massive data dump occurred on the internet.
Arthur had uploaded the encrypted financial files to every major news outlet, federal investigation agency, and medical board in the country. Simultaneously, I sent the audio recording of Elena’s voicemail to the chief of the FBI’s white-collar crime division, whom Arthur knew personally to be uncorruptible.

By noon, Vale Pharmaceuticals’ stock began to crash. It dropped 30% in thirty minutes. Trading was halted.
But I knew this wouldn't stop them from killing Elena to save themselves. I had to get into the Vale Corporate Clinic. And I knew exactly how to do it.
