Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the Manhattan skyline looked entirely different through the windows of my newly redesigned home in Greenwich Village—a sprawling, warm brick townhouse filled with natural light, the sound of laughter, and the patter of small sneakers running across hardwood floors.

The glass fortress on Wall Street was a distant memory. I had stepped down as CEO of the investment firm, handing the reins over to a board of trusted partners while I focused my life on what actually mattered.

Outside in the backyard garden, Liam and Lucas were currently attempting to teach our golden retriever how to catch a tennis ball, their shouts of joy echoing up through the open French doors.

I stood in the kitchen, wrapping my arms gently around Emma's waist as she stirred a pot of Sunday morning pasta sauce. She leaned back against my chest with a comfortable sigh, resting her hands over mine.

"You burned the garlic again, Mr. Miller," she teased, turning her head with a smile.

"I was distracted," I murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her neck. "By how beautiful my fiancée looks standing in our kitchen."

Emma laughed, turning around to face me and wrapping her arms around my neck. "Fiancée. It still sounds a little wild coming from the coldest, most ruthless CEO in Manhattan."

"That guy doesn't exist anymore," I said softly, resting my forehead against hers. "He was just a scared kid hiding behind glass numbers because he was too terrified to admit he needed love."

"Well," Emma smiled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "The kid did okay in the end."

From the backyard, a loud cheer erupted as Liam successfully tackled the golden retriever into a pile of autumn leaves, while Lucas stood by keeping score with intense, serious concentration.

I smiled, pulling Emma a little closer, knowing that no matter what tomorrow brought, my life was finally built on something real, something unbreakable, and something eternal.
