Chapter 5 - WHISPERS IN THE FRENCH QUARTERThree days later, the humid air of the French Quarter hung heavy with the scent of beignets, jazz, and impending violence. In the back room of an exclusive, members-only cigar lounge, three men sat around a mahogany table shrouded in thick blue smoke.

Dante Moretti, the ruthless head of the rival Moretti crime family, slammed a heavy glass tumbler of bourbon down onto the wood, spilling dark amber liquid across the polished surface.
"Are you telling me," Moretti snarled, leaning across the table toward his top lieutenant, "that a blind ten-year-old girl walked into an armed arena, petted Julian Hart's killer dog, and now lives like a princess in his fortress?"
"It's true, Don Moretti," the lieutenant replied nervously, dabbing sweat from his forehead with a silk handkerchief. "My informants inside the compound confirmed it. Hart has practically adopted them. The dog won't let anyone else within twenty feet of the girl. If anyone tries to approach her, Cyrus tears them apart."
Moretti’s eyes narrowed into cold, calculating slits. For years, he had tried to find a chink in Julian Hart’s armor. Julian was a ghost—no wife, no known children, no sentimental attachments that could be used as leverage. He was a machine built for power and control. But a blind girl and a rehabilitated dog? That wasn't just an attachment; that was a profound vulnerability wrapped in innocence.
"Julian thinks he can play god," Moretti sneered, a cruel smile forming across his scarred lips. "He thinks he's untouchable because he bought off a stray dog and a beggar child. If we take the girl... Julian will come crawling to us on his knees, begging for her life, and his empire will fall into our hands without firing a single shot."

"Boss, the Hart estate is heavily fortified," the lieutenant warned. "Breaking in won't be easy."
"We aren't going to break in," Moretti said, his voice dropping into a sinister whisper. "We're going to let them come to us. Set up the trap near the old sugar refinery by the docks. Plant a false lead—make it look like someone from Julian's past is holding information about the girl's missing parents. Julian's pride won't let him ignore it. And when he leaves the estate to investigate... we strike."
