Chapter 7 - THE DAWN OF A NEW EMPIRESix months later, the Hart estate looked entirely different.

The high stone walls and security cameras were still there, guarding the perimeter from the dangers of the criminal underworld, but inside the courtyard, the atmosphere had undergone a miraculous transformation.

Sunlight poured through the glass conservatory, illuminating rows of blooming orchids and the bright, colorful laughter of children playing on the lawn. Maisie sat on a white wooden swing beneath the shade of a massive oak tree, her fingers strumming a small acoustic guitar Leo had bought her for her birthday. Cyrus lay comfortably at her feet, his tail giving a lazy thump against the grass whenever she hit a correct chord.

Julian Hart walked out onto the stone patio, holding a steaming cup of black coffee. He wore a simple white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking less like a feared syndicate boss and more like a man who had finally found a reason to breathe.

He walked over to the swing, resting his hand gently on the wooden rope.

"You're playing that song again," Julian noted with a faint, genuine smile.

Maisie stopped strumming, turning her sightless eyes toward his voice with a bright, knowing grin. "It's a happy song, Julian. It doesn't have any walls."

Julian chuckled softly, looking out across the sprawling green lawns where Leo was kicking a soccer ball around with two of the estate's young caretakers. The underworld had tried to break him, and rivals had tried to destroy him, but in the end, an abandoned dog and a blind little girl had done the impossible: they had saved his soul.

"No," Julian murmured, looking down at Maisie with absolute, protective devotion. "It doesn't have any walls at all."
